JOB SUMMARY
The Business Services Financial Coordinator - Construction & Operations is a member of the Business Services team and will work closely with the Facilities department on construction and operations related issues. This position will work with other team members to provide timely and accurate financial accounting and reporting as well as excellent customer service to a variety of internal and external customers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prepare and coordinate monthly financial budget reports for internal and external stakeholders for construction and bond projects, related departments, and other relevant operations grants.
Work closely with Facilities and Purchasing to monitor purchase orders and accounts payables related to construction and operations activities.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all billings and payments relating to construction and operation activities are made in a timely manner.
Assist the Director of Financial Services in the preparation and administration of annual budgets - including projecting costs for department, projects, and relevant grants.
Monitor general ledger activities (payroll, revenue, expenses) to ensure compliance and fiscal accountability. Highlight any budget issues to ensure that expenditures so not exceed authorized levels.
Make recommendations regarding budget revisions, reporting requirements, internal controls and office procedures and policies to improve efficiencies.
Prepare journal entries and other financial transactions as required.
Coordinate and maintain the fixed asset management system, including the Federal Fixed Asset inventory.
Assist in year-end closing and audit processes relating to fixed assets, capital projects, debt service and other areas of responsibility.
Prepare and submit final grant expenditure reports as required on various state portals - GEMS/MARS, NEXSYS and MEIS.
Monitor general ledger, payroll, purchasing and other financial reports for compliance and fiscal accountability.
Assist in maintenance of the chart of accounts in coordination with the Director and/or Chief Financial Officer in accordance with the State Accounting Manual
Facilitate the communication of information with other departments.
Maintain current knowledge of all GRPS Board of Education policies, District processes and procedures, and applicable State and Federal guidelines relating to K-12 education - with a focus bond related activities.
Participate in relevant training programs designated for continuing education related to school business.
Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in positive, supportive, and collaborative ways providing a positive image of Grand Rapids Public Schools.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

Associate degree in business plus 3 years of current accounting experience; or
Bachelor's degree in business administration with an Accounting Major
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in construction & operational accounting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic accounting and general ledger understanding/knowledge - debits, credits, assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses
Knowledge of the construction industry and school bond issuance
Ability to perform budget forecasting and planning
Familiarity with Federal and State restricted program grant principles/procedures
Knowledge of Davis Bacon and prevailing wage laws
Demonstrated ability to read, analyze and interpret financial statements, technical procedures, and government regulations
Demonstrated ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data and analyzes facts to draw valid conclusions and solve problems
Collaborative team member
Motivation to participate in ongoing training and personal development
Proven ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and to prioritize responsibilities
Proficiency in use of technology with intermediate/advanced excel skills and knowledge of other Microsoft/Google applications.
Proven ability to provide excellent customer service
Proven ability to work with confidential information
Proven ability to make decisions and act independently
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
