Job Summary
Provide support for the duties of the engineers and technicians on a variety of construction related projects involving pavements and materials.
Assist with engineering projects and perform laboratory testing and field observation of construction materials.
The amount of oversight and supervision will depend on the task complexity, as determined by the engineer or technician.
Essential Functions

Perform inspection, observation, and testing services.
Perform testing and classifications on soil, aggregate, asphalt, bedrock, and other materials.
Perform excavation observations and other geotechnical testing and monitoring.
Perform Geoprobe soil borings and pavement coring.
Conduct other field observations, monitoring, surveys, and evaluations.
Coordinate technicians to perform testing services.
Prepare reports and other documentation detailing results of tests, evaluations, or analyses, including appropriate opinions, conclusions and recommendations.
Maintain client and in-house communication for ongoing projects, including daily site visit reports, memos, or other necessary documentation.
Assist in developing and implementing QA/QC procedures and policies for the Division.
Review plans and specifications and prepare task and limited project specific proposals.
Maintain project file in accordance with AET QA procedures and requirements.
Prepare timely invoices and pursue aged accounts.
Assist in training technicians.
Other Areas of Accountability
Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, along with AET's QA and Health and Safety Policies, to promote the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
Maintain high chargeable productivity.
Maintain valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Some positions may require use of personal vehicle for company business.
Maintain compliance with DOT driver regulations if required for position.
Maintain appropriate physicals if required for position.
Frequent travel required within regional area.
Occasional out-of-town travel.
Duties often outdoors and away from the main office/laboratory location.
Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
Complete assigned projects within budget and satisfy client needs.
Maintain current working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, procedures and technologies in designated field(s).
Participate in at least one professional organization.
Continue progress toward professional registration.
Aid in company marketing functions.
Develop and maintain business contacts.
Perform other duties as required to meet departmental and company goals.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological curriculum, or other acceptable engineering discipline.
0-3 years of related experience.
Ability to achieve professional registration (PE or PG.)
Internship or previous work experience preferred, but not mandatory.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of fundamental engineering or scientific principles within specialty area and ability to apply that knowledge to the job.
Experience using personal computer software, especially Microsoft Office.
Ability to work at environmental remediation, industrial and construction sites and perform field work including, but not limited to, collecting samples, operating field instruments, following procedures, planning, organizing and arranging logistics for the job, and documenting field activities and data collected.
Experience analyzing and interpreting data, accurately observing and recording field activities, reading plans, blueprints, and specifications as related to the position.
Communication skills sufficient to convey complex technical information in a clear manner to diverse audiences.
Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.
Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project and client needs.
Capable of the physical labor required, with personal protective equipment.
Ability to occasionally move 50 to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
This job primarily operates primary in a field environment in outdoor conditions, on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather conditions.
This role secondary operates in an office environment and uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds.
The employee will occasionally push or pull equipment weighing up to 200 pounds.
The employee is required to frequently work outside.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
