SALARY RANGE: 112,900.32 - 188,042.40YEARLY

General Summary:

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Midwifery Practitioner (either a Certified Professional Midwife or Certified Midwife) works independently under a collaborative agreement with a physician(s) to provide specialty healthcare for women to include physical exams, diagnosing, treating and managing medical conditions and delivery. Focused care on gynecological services, reproductive health, labor and delivery, prenatal and postpartum care, peri-post menopause care and newborn care up to 28days post-delivery. The Mid-wife works in a team-based, patient-centered care environment, in accordance with established protocols, practices and standardized guidelines.

Responsibilities:

1. Collaborates, and consults with Bayhealth physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations.
2. Takes part in initial evaluation of all L&D patients, monitors course of labor and delivery, advising on proper health practices, taking tests as appropriate, and reporting any complications to the obstetrician.
3. Prepares patients and their partners for delivery; trains mothers-to-be in exercise, breathing, and relaxation techniques. Provides instructions in breast-feeding if requested.
4. Attends and reassures patient throughout the course of labor, monitors the fetus condition, administers medications, notifies physician of prolonged labor or complications indicating need for possible surgical intervention.
5. Delivers infant and checks mother and child to ensure that they are responding normally.
6. During postpartum period, visits mother and child to give additional instruction in feeding and care of the newborn.
7. Conducts classes for patients and family members concerning pregnancy, delivery, and proper childcare.
8. Conducts classes for nursing students so they may assist new mothers.
9. Provides advice on family planning and performs gynecological services.
10. Participates in performance improvement activities.
11. Participates in continuing education activities and obtains CEU's necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority.
12. Adapts to changing demands of workplace.
13. Demonstrates the ability to interact with and contribute to professional development of peers and other healthcare providers.
14. Assesses need for referral to other healthcare providers.
15. Participates in labor and delivery coverage.
16. All other duties and special projects as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

Education: Master Degree MIDWIFERY; Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with certificate of nurse-midwifery.
Credential(s): Midwife Practitioner; Certified Midwife; Or equivalent certifying board or registry.
Experience: Required: One (1) year experience working as a Nurse Midwife or Midwife in a private or hospital setting.

Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

Education:
Credential(s): Basic Life Support; Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Experience: Preferred: Three (3) years' experience as a Midwife in a private or hospital setting.
