If you said yes these questions, you might be the next Ridership Analyst on the Ridership and Mobility Analysis team in Metro's Planning office. Our team integrates and leverages big data to develop actionable insights on ridership, regional mobility, and the customer experience. Analyses cover a range of topics, including the impact of planned service changes, unplanned disruptions, special events, fare policy, changing regional travel patterns, equity, and more.

We are looking for candidates with critical thinking, data science, and research skills; experience working with and communicating transportation data, writing code to query large datasets; and a passion for improving public transit for riders. The right candidate can transform a large dataset into useful information, and turn information into ideas and action.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.

Minimum Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, data science, urban planning, public policy, or a related field. This experience shall include at least one year applying skills in one or more of the following areas:

databasequeryingandmanagement(e.g. SQL)

scriptinglanguages(e.g. Python, Java)

statisticallanguages(e.g.R,Stata, SPSS)

datavisualizationtools(e.g.Tableau,PowerBI)

A Masters Degree in urban planning, data science, public policy or a related field may be counted as two (2) years of experience.

SUMMARY

The Ridership Analyst conducts analysis of Metro's ridership and related data within the Ridership and Mobility Analysis team in the Office of Planning. The incumbent works across multiple large datasets to query data, conduct analysis, ensure accuracy, and perform quality checks on data related to ridership, crowding, customer travel patterns, regional mobility, and related topics. The incumbent prepares data visualizations, fulfills data requests, develops and maintains dashboards, and creates reports to provide actionable information to both technical and non-technical internal and external stakeholders.

Collaborateswithinternal and external stakeholders and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.

Monitorsdataquality, investigates data quality issues, and performs data quality checks.

Supportsanalystsandotherenduserswithsoftware,dashboards,databases,andothermethods of accessing ridership and related data.

Gathersrequirementsforprojectsandrequestsforridershipdata.

Other Duties

Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
