Nuclear Regulatory Compliance Intern

Zeno is seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Regulatory Compliance Intern for summer 2025 to support developing and licensing Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS) technologies. This role directly contributes to Zeno's regulatory team as Zeno brings novel RPS technology to market for government and commercial use.

In this role you will:
• Assist in the development of regulatory and licensing strategies for novel nuclear technologies
• Conduct research on federal and state regulations applicable to advanced nuclear systems
• Assist in preparing regulatory submissions and documentation
• Contribute to the development of a comprehensive radiation protection program
• Participate in activities to enhance and promote a strong nuclear safety culture
• Collaborate on special projects related to radiation safety and health physics

Key Qualifications and Skills
• Currently pursuing a degree in nuclear engineering, health physics, nuclear science, public policy, or related field.
• General background in radiation safety fundamentals and regulatory frameworks.
• Familiarity with state or federal level radioactive material licensing is preferred.
• Candidate must be a self-starter and able to interface with internal and external stakeholders with support from manager.
• Able to meet deadlines and perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Clearly demonstrate the ability to work either independently or as part of a team.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Functions
• Position requires in-office presence in Washington, D.C. (Mt. Vernon/Chinatown) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, remote work is optional on Mondays and Fridays.
• Travel: Travel is required,<10%
• Motor Abilities: Sitting and/or standing for extended periods, bending/stooping, grasping/gripping, fine motor control (hands)
• Physical exertion and/or requirements: Minimal, with ability to safely lift up to 15 pounds
• Repetitive work: Prolonged
• Special Senses: Visual and audio focused work
• Work Conditions: Stairs, typing/keyboard, standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hrs./day

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated compensation for this is $20-30/Hour. The final compensation will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, years of relevant experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, and other business considerations.
