The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.

St. Mary's Regional Hospital is seeking a dynamic Weekened Charge OR RN to lead our surgical nursing team. This role is ideal for a confident clinician who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. As a Charge Nurse, you will coordinate daily OR operations, mentor staff, and ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency in surgical services.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support OR nursing staff during surgical procedures

  • Coordinate patient care from pre-op through post-op recovery

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards

  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Manage OR schedules, staffing assignments, and workflow optimization

  • Provide hands-on clinical care and serve as a resource for complex cases

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff development

Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in Colorado or compact state

  • Minimum of 3 years of perioperative nursing experience

  • Prior leadership or charge nurse experience preferred

  • BLS and ACLS certifications required

  • CNOR certification highly desirable

  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills

Schedule:

  • Three 12 hour Shifts

  • Weekend Nights

  • Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7pm - 7:30 am

Your day:

As a Weekend OR RN Shift Coordinator / Charge RN you need to know how to:

  • Supervise and/or provide direct patient care. Assist and support staff in responding to and problem-solving situations related to patient/ family complaints, Physician concerns, risk management, associate safety, and Hospital safety.

  • Respond to patient emergencies as needed. Respond as the charge or lead person for disasters.

  • Collaborate with the staffing office and adjust numbers of staff for census changes during the shift.

  • Communicate with the oncoming Charge Nurse about census, staffing, pending admissions and discharges, any problems they need to be aware of, and any patient information that will be helpful in making assignments.

  • Support unit management team in managing department productivity/staffing and timekeeping and coordinating unit activities.

  • Perform evaluations, coaching and disciplinary actions as needed.

  • Participate in hospital committees as unit representative as needed.

Your experience:

We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:

  • ASN / ADN from an accredited program with the ability to obtain your BSN from an accredited program within four (4) years of hire unless you possess a minimum of fifteen (15) years of proven continuous Registered Nurse experience in an acute care setting, required.

  • Current Colorado RN license or compact license with the ability to obtain Colorado RN license, required.

  • Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire (with prior approval), required (ACLS/NRP/PALS as approp.
