Duties
This position is located in the Division of Media Relations, Office of External Affairs.
As a Media Relations Specialist, some of your typical work assignments may include:
* Serving as the Commission's on the record spokesperson for responding to numerous and varied inquiries, frequently involving complex and highly controversial, technical, and legal subject matter generated by the general news media, trade press, representatives of public and special interest groups, and the public about the full range of energy regulatory matters within the purview of the Commission.
* Serving as policy advisor on media strategies to OEA, Commission personnel, the Chairman, and maintains daily liaison with news media representatives.
* Supervising media coverage and special appearances by the Chairman and other Commission officials, and arranges for news conferences, interviews, and all media appearances. Also providing advice on the timing and possible media and public reaction to proposed announcements of Commission actions, new programs, policies, etc. Reviewing and studying the Commission's agenda and Commission issuances, and participating in all Commission meetings and public events to provide advice with respect to any special public or media relations problems associated with matters under consideration.
* Proposing, developing, writing, and editing a wide variety of informational materials, including background papers, media plans, briefing papers, fact sheets, news releases, social media posts, and letters for use by the Chairman, Commissioners, and other senior level officials of the Commission.

Qualifications

You must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is defined as: experience in developing outreach activities and forging effective working relationships amongst the news media for one or more of the following: natural gas and electric markets; pricing; transmission planning; electric reliability; alternative energy sources; and infrastructure projects.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e. g. , Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e. g. , professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
