Description of Work

The Correctional Behavioral Specialist I (CBSI) position reports to the Psychological Services Coordinator. The Correctional Behavioral Specialist I position is located at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW).
This position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Administering, scoring and supervising psychological tests to offenders in a diagnostic/mental health setting.
Counseling with offenders to establish the necessary plans for results.
Gathering relevant social, criminal and mental health background information necessary to adequately interpret test results and prepare reports.
Employee may also have an assigned supportive counseling caseload designed to aid offender's adjustments to prison environment and their psychological functioning.
Functioning as liaison with diagnostics and treatment staff and possibly serving on various committees relative to treatment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Note:
Positions being recruited specifically for diagnostics will require at least one year administering and/or conducting psychological testing.

The
Division of Comprehensive Health Services
is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
