Summary
Community Power Collective's (CPC) mission is to build power with tenants, street vendors & transit riders in communities of color to create a solidarity economy, win community control of land & housing, and form dignified public systems that facilitate a culture of radical care in Boyle Heights, East LA and the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area. Our organization was established in 2020, and we carry with us a legacy of 25 years of economic and housing justice organizing in the Eastside. We lead all the base building and organizing efforts for the LA Street Vendor Campaign.
We are looking for someone to join our visionary team of organizers to support the implementation of outreach, education, and base building strategies for the Los Angeles Street Vending Campaign. The Senior Street Vending Organizer will be responsible for:
Implementing outreach and education programs to support street vendors in understanding their rights under state law and rules and regulations pertaining to street vending in the City of Los Angeles

Implementing an organizing and base building plan in vendor hubs to build street vendor power for continued advocacy and politicization building.

The ideal candidate will be someone with a strong base building and outreach background and who is able to adapt to new conditions, jump in to support in different capacities, believes deeply in self-determination and community power, and who embodies a commitment to both personal and systemic transformation.
This position will be supervised by the Lead Organizer for Street Vendor Justice. This is a full-time position with benefits and is secured for 1 year (12 months). Our intention is for this to be a long-term position and CPC is consistently fundraising for the role.
This position will start as soon as possible.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outreach & Base Building
Conduct outreach in vending hubs to recruit new vendors into our programs and membership.

Follow up with new contacts to do 1:1s and house visits to get potential members involved in program activities and campaigns.

Develop outreach scripts, follow-up materials & tools to disseminate important information to street vendors in the priority areas and prepare materials for 1:1's.

Perform data entry on outreach and membership information and maintain an organized membership database.

Program Base Meetings
Develop and implement ongoing workshops (monthly)

across multiple vending communities (3-4 neighborhoods) on vendor-related issues to expand education of vendor communities.

Facilitate the formation of vendor associations and or other models of vendor led governance structures in 3 high density vendor hubs.

Create content, presentations, and other materials for ongoing membership meetings.

Recruit vendor leaders to leadership retreats and assemblies.

Membership and Leadership Development
Develop and implement training on organizing skills and political education for members including:

public comment training and support;

how to talk to the media;

how to facilitate meetings,

how to do outreach,

and power analysis of city council,

Policy Campaigns & Advocacy
Implementing advocacy and organizing tactics to support improvement of the city's street vending program:

Preparing scripts and talking points for advocacy meetings with elected officials.

Plan and implement mobilizations and direct actions in support of policy initiatives that improve the lives of vendors.

Work with Communications Organizers to develop and implement social media tactics.

Cross Program Support
Work with organizers and staff in other program areas to create a culture of organizing, strategy development, and mutual support.

Work with staff across programs to identify and respond to organizing opportunities.

Recruit member leaders to CPC wide membership development programs and membership assemblies.

Supports the planning and implementation of CPC organizational events, training, and outreach efforts.

Required Experience & Qualifications
Support the mission, vision and goals of the Community Power Collective.

Minimum 3 years experience in community based or labor organizing.

Strong commitment to transformative organizing through leadership development and consciousness building.

Experience working with vulnerable populations who are balancing advocacy work and navigating crises.

Strong skills in base building, one-on-ones, house visits, and leadership development.

Experience in quick turnaround mobilization for high stakes activities.

Extensive experience developing and implementing mobilizations and direct actions.

Strong meeting planning and facilitation skills.

Ability to motivate members to take action.

Strong content development skills and verbal and written presentation skills.

Experience in developing scripts, talking points, and supporting community members in speaking in public.

Detail oriented, self-motivated, ability to multitask, provide quick responses and highly organized.

Bilingual Spanish speaking.

Computer literacy with proficiency in database systems, web-based communications, Zoom, MS Word, Excel, Google Suite.

Able to work independently while maintaining close communication with remote teams.

Open to flexible hours and able to manage your time independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of LA City politics and experience engaging council offices.

Support the mission, vision and goals of the Community Power Collective. * Minimum 1 year experience supervising organizers or volunteers in community based or labor organizing.


Strong commitment to organizing through leadership development and anti-oppression worldview.
Strong base building, one-on-ones, personal visits, leadership development, and direct actions planning skills.




Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt salaried position. CPC has a set salary structure that aims to support lateral leadership. The set annual salary for this position is $75,000. CPC is fiscally sponsored by Right to the City Alliance (RTTC). RTTC offers a comprehensive benefits package including 100% medical, and dental insurance benefits for employees and dependent as well as short and long term disability and life insurance benefits for employees. Employees qualify for employee-matched 401 K retirement plan after 1 year of employment. In order to support healthy work-life balance and on top of observing all major holidays and 80 hrs of PTO front loaded.
