This posting may be used to fill future vacancies in Canon City. The first vacancy will be at Centennial Correctional Facility (CCF) and the second vacancy will be at Fremont Correctional Facility (FCF).

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

Description of Job

The Retention Coach position will mentor new employees at the CDOC. The position will support staff to better understand various aspects of the job, including institutional policies and procedures, security protocols, interaction with inmates, and crisis management. The position will help employees understand and emphasize the development of essential skills such as effective communication, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.

This program will provide meaningful mentorship to our valued new hires and existing staff; it has the potential to create a legacy within the current workforce and train and prepare employees for a long-term career within the agency. The purpose of this program is to establish a mentoring relationship that will provide our newer correctional professionals with the opportunity to realize both professional and personal development goals, as well as enable our organization as a whole to build talent internally.

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide and/or coordinate group training to newly hired employees;
  • Position will contact end users of the program to identify strengths, weaknesses, and implement a plan of actions for continued improvement;
  • Position evaluates the relevance and importance of programmatic theories, concepts, principles and general policy in order to tailor and develop an efficient and effective approach to fit specific circumstances;
  • Provides oversight and daily management or program and assignments such as coaching and feedback sessions with mentors and mentees;
  • Ensures that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to an approved training budget;
  • Communicating with management, trainers, and team members to ensure that all needs are met;
  • Evaluating individual and organizational performance to ensure training is meeting business needs and improving performance;
  • Provides customer service to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring prompt and accurate clarification and dissemination of information;
  • Research identified challenges and problems, and makes recommendations to improve, solve and correct;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsThis is a Part Time position. Minimum QualificationsExperience: Six (6) years of *professional corrections related experience which must include all of the following:
  • Relevant Corrections related experience with the State of Colorado.
  • Experience training and mentoring employees in a corrections or parole environment.
  • Experience with and understanding of corrections environment and culture.

Any experience less than full time will be pro-rated. This work experience must be clearly described, in your own words, in the work history section of your application to meet this requirement.

Professional experience involves exercising discretion, analytical skill, judgment, and personal accountability and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, and sharing an organized body of knowledge that characteristically is: uniquely acquired through an intense education or training regimen at a recognized college or university; equivalent to the curriculum requirements for a bachelor's or higher degree with major study in or pertinent to the specialized field and continuously studied to explore, extend and use additional discoveries, interpretations, and application and to improve data, materials equipment, applications, and methods.

Substitutions: College course work may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. (A copy of your college transcript must accompany the application in order to receive college credit).
