Description

The Patron Service Associate works in association with other library staff to provide a high level of customer service to the public in one or more of the following areas: Information Desk, Children's Desk, or inventHQ Makerspace. Their primary responsibilities are public facing and occur onsite. Patron Service Associate staff look for opportunities to further the Library, Arts, History & CSU Extension mission to create welcoming spaces for opportunity, growth, trust and connection.

Works with other employees to create a welcoming and safe space for staff and the public. Follows library customer service expectations to greet and welcome patrons.
Meets library equity and diversity goals in their assigned area.
Responds to patron requests in a timely manner and provides customer assistance in person, on the phone and in digital and online communications.
Stays up-to-date with all relevant technology, resources, programs, services, materials and the collection in order to facilitate access for the community.
Responds to and resolves routine customer needs regarding the use of the space, programs and services. This may also include interpretation of library policies and procedures and enforcement of the Library Code of Conduct. Specific job duties related to this expectation are listed in the position guidelines for the Information Desk, Children's Desk and inventHQ Makerspace.
Communicates with patrons to determine information needs and refers patrons to other staff as needed.
Maintains confidentiality of all patron data and information.
Assists as needed to maintain services, including the organization and appearance of the space to ensure ease of use and safety.
Participates in professional development opportunities to improve services and create welcoming opportunities for patrons.
Creates displays, instructional guides and promotional materials utilizing computer software designated to complete tasks.
Assists in maintaining services by performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Specific job duties are listed in the position guidelines for the Information Desk, Children's Desk and inventHQ Makerspace.
This position is not eligible for a hybrid or remote schedule and is scheduled for a majority of their working hours at a public facing service point: Information Desk, Children's Desk or inventHQ Makerspace.

Minimum QualificationsEducation

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university - preferred

Experience-

1 year experience required in public library work or a closely related field requiring extensive public contact in person and on the phone.

Division area experience - required

Children's
- At least 1 year experience working with children and their families or caregivers in a library setting or another related field.
inventHQ Makerspace
- 1 year of experience working with a variety of makerspace tools and machinery, such as laser cutters, 3D printers, electronic cutting machines, sublimation printers, and hobby electronics. Experience working with children (preferred) and experience teaching complex technology (preferred).
Public Services
- At least one year public library experience or other related customer facing experience.

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

Knowledge of Google Suite
Skill in understanding and professionally responding to customer needs
Skill in the operation of computers and applicable software, printers, copiers, and telephone
Works well with culturally diverse individuals
Anticipates and resolves problems, including escalation of issues to supervisor when appropriate
Ability to handle stressful interactions with patrons/customers
Ability to collaborate and work well with others

Work may be scheduled Monday through Sunday, including some holiday and evening hours. Regular, reliable attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, lift and move objects.
The employee must be able to move around the library or inventHQ makerspace in order to perform routine tasks: helping patrons locate materials, create displays and attend meetings.
Physical demands are light and employees must sometimes push and lift items up to 10 lbs. to maintain safety and remove obstructions for staff and community accessibility.
Employees perform basic tasks and routine work on computers and other electronic devices with software designated to complete work.
