Job Overview
Specializes in and leads therapeutic administration of radiopharmaceuticals. This technologist will also perform high-quality pediatric Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) / PET-CT procedures daily. This role focuses on the regulatory requirements, documentation, preparation, administration, and monitoring of high-dose radioactive isotopes for therapeutic treatments while ensuring comprehensive knowledge and application of diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures. The Lead Technologist over therapies will oversee the daily operations of the therapy program, ensuring adherence to safety standards, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care tailored to the unique needs of pediatric patients. Will also serve as the subject matter expert for advancing research and care across Children's Hospital Colorado, while serving as a key partner with our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD).

This position requires a proactive leader who collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, provides mentorship to technologists, and maintains meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of patient care, record keeping, and department management. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge in high-dose radioisotope therapies, demonstrate expertise in pediatric patient care, and have a strong commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

Starting pay for this position is $55.48/hour.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - Graduation from an accredited nuclear medicine program required. Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare or scientific discipline strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE - Two years of diagnostic radiographic experience required.

Experience in a pediatric healthcare setting or with pediatric patients is preferred.

Experience in high-dose radioactive therapy administration of one of the following is strongly preferred:

MIBG I-131

I-131

Lutathera

Y-90

Proven leadership experience or prior supervisory role in a nuclear medicine department preferred.

Participation in research or quality improvement projects in nuclear medicine preferred.

CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS; ARRT Registered Technologist with Nuclear Medicine discipline or a NMTCB Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) required.

Responsibilities
POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

Provides patient care to all of these age groups:

Neonate- Infancy- > 30 days to 1 yr.

Toddlers- > 1 yr. to 3 yrs.

Pre-schoolers- > 3 yrs. to 5 yrs.

School age-> 5 yrs. to 13 yrs.

Adolescent- >13 yrs. to 18 yrs.

Adult- >18 yrs. to 65 yrs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees radiographic images and monitors quality for all NM diagnostic radiographic procedures.

Facilitates patient flow on a daily basis.

Independently produces high quality images while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology through proper diagnostic scanning.

Provides age appropriate care and appropriately prepares patients for procedures.

Provides clear and detailed information regarding the procedure and care to patients, families, coworkers and others.

Demonstrates the ability to safely operate all Nuclear Medicine equipment, including PET; and ancillary equipment as needed.

Demonstrates and utilizes principles of ALARA in radiation safety management.

Demonstrates competency in all aspects of RIS and PACs as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.

Manages patient priority and act as first responder when needed.

Follows department policies, procedures and protocol.

Demonstrates initial and annual competency in IV placement and securement, and extravasation handling.

Responsible for ordering, handling, recording and administering radioactive materials in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

Participates in procedure review and writing.

Participates in competency assessment.

Responsible for the coordination and/or oversight of projects and initiatives as defined by leadership.

Directs the technologist in their daily work and assists with technologist scheduling.

Oversees student and new hire training in the radiology department and communicates with the school and/or supervisor as required.
