the

Clinical Responder

is responsible for focusing on the daily referral activity by ensuring that all eligible organ referrals receive a timely review and subsequent follow up. This includes, but is not limited to, performing onsite evaluation of potential donors, receiving updates on patient condition and plan of care, reviewing hospital EMR for clinical status updates and communicating with appropriate clinical personnel. The Clinical Responder will work closely with on-call team members and leadership to triage each referral appropriately. This position is part of a team that provides service to the donation service area hospitals 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Response & Evaluation

1. Completes timely onsite response to the donation service area hospitals for viable organ referrals, understanding the presence is vital to NFH's mission.

2. Conducts chart reviews and determines medical suitability for donation in conjunction with other clinical personnel.

3. Collaborates with the healthcare team to develop a plan for referral management from initial referral through declaration of death or DCD evaluation.

4. Informs hospital staff on progression of referral process.

5. Understands and accurately maintains proper donor information and charting documentation during the referral assessment process to maintain organizational records.

6. Maintains competency in authorization training and provides training as needed.

7. Aids with process complaints/concerns and other customer service issues effectively and assists in corrective actions concerning errors, accidents and/or complain.

8. Consults with designated organ administrator on call (AOC), Family Support Liaison (FSL) staff as needed in a timely manner.

9. Acts with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Stakeholder Support

10. Provides emotional support and donation process expertise for donor families and utilizes other staff or hospital resources as needed.

11. Builds relationships with stakeholders and delivers customer service with the highest level of excellence to all individuals within and outside of NFH during routine as well as stressful situations.

12. Promotes organ and tissue donation and a positive image of NFH.

Education, experience and training

Education:

Some post-secondary education is required. An associate degree in allied or health science or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience:

Two years of experience in a medical/critical care field or OPO required. Experience as Medical Technologist, Nursing Assistant, Unit Secretary or similar, EMT, Paramedic, or RRT preferred. Competence in electronic medical records and an understanding of medical charting and terminology is required. The ability to communicate effectively and professionally, as well as provide exemplary customer service is required.
