• Assist the healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care.
• Perform duties within moderate to high acuity surgical cases, anticipating needs of the surgeon and healthcare team.
• Exhibit advanced surgical skills and demonstrate efficient surgical planning for assigned cases.
• Discuss surgical plans and troubleshoot instruments and equipment.
• Prepare the operative suite and maintain the sterile field and patient safety.
• Gather required instruments and supplies, serving as a surgical assistant as needed.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, and stocking operating rooms and other perioperative areas.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards at all times.
• Prepare for surgical procedures, including checking supplies and setting up the sterile table.
• Perform surgical counts and participate in procedure time-outs.
• Assist in gowning and gloving the surgical team, and drape the sterile field.
• Pass instruments, maintain an organized operative field, and offer suggestions to the surgeon.
• Prepare sterile dressings and handle specimens post-procedure.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization and prepare case carts.
• Observe patient conditions and report changes to physicians and registered nurses.
• Plan for procedural progression and adjust during emergencies as needed.
• Maintain a financial stewardship approach regarding supplies and equipment.
• Provide relationship-based patient care under supervision, adapting service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
• Uphold healthcare system policies, safety goals, and ethical accountability.
• Demonstrate teamwork, fiscal responsibility, and serve as a patient advocate.
• Assist with room preparation, patient transport, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a positive attitude and flexibility in assignments.
• Complete competencies, mandatory education, and provide a learning environment for students and new hires.
• Participate in training related to new policies, processes, or equipment.
• Maintain continuing education hours related to the field.
