Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Part Time/PRN

Purpose:

Provides Occupational Therapy services to residents by assisting in the assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation, and communication. Functions under supervision of the Occupational Therapist.Qualifications:

• Ability to carry out treatment plans as designed by supervising therapist

• Ability to document daily care as per established guidelines.

• Ability to effectively communicate response to treatment intervention to residents,

family, and other team members.Essential Job Functions: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Judgment and Quality

• Provides Occupational Therapy services to residents under the direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist.

• Assists the Occupational Therapist in the evaluation process in the areas of self care, homemaking, functional mobility and coordination. Assists in the evaluation of other areas as directed.

• Identifies indications for and assists in evaluations at appropriate intervals under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.

• Conducts both individual and group treatment as assigned by the Occupational Therapist and outlined in treatment plan in the areas of ADL, functional mobility, ROM, strength, coordination, cognitive/perceptual remediation and functional maintenance.

• Assists in the selection of Occupational Therapy techniques/media and in the sequence of activities, adapts techniques/media as indicated by resident performance and following consultation with the Occupational Therapist. No major modification to the treatment plan is made without prior consultation with the Occupational Therapist.

• Maintains acceptable resident care ratios as determined by the Occupational Therapist.

• Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and productivity standards.

• Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation and follow-up of resident therapy programs.

• Assists with and participates in Continuous Quality Improvement programs as required.

• Adheres to established confidentiality standards.• Follows management direction.Communication

• Participates in resident, family and staff education.

• Confers formally and informally with other team members in coordinating the total rehabilitation program of the resident.

• Maintains positive relationships and rapport with coworkers, residents, family members and facility personnel.

• Communicates orally and/or in writing with clarity and accuracy.

• Projects a positive and professional image at all times .

• Maintains communication with supervisor concerning caseload fluctuations as appropriate.Planning and Organization

• Assists the Occupational Therapist in identifying a problem list, short term goals, long term goals and treatment plan.

• Adheres to department and resident schedule and modifies as appropriate for treatment regimen.

• Organizing work area and work in progress so that minimum delay results with interruptions or substitutions.

• Coordinates treatment plan with resident, family, and other team members.Documentation

• Adheres to department procedures regarding documentation of Occupational Therapy services.

• Records indirect time and billable treatment times according to department procedures.

• Documents results of resident's assessment, treatment, follow-up and termination of services.

• Records skilled services provided on a daily basis , including time spent with direct patient care.

• Completes weekly progress notes providing information related to patient progress and plan modification.
