Temporary Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Job Summary:
An employee in this position administers direct and indirect intervention for students to assist a speech-language pathologist in the provision of educational services for students with speech-language disorders. The work is guided by therapeutic protocols, plans developed and provided by the supervising speech-language pathologist. The assistant is expected to use individually designed interventions based upon the unique clinical-educational needs of each student. The assistant's work with students is under direct supervision by the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP); however, the assistant is expected to recognize when changes in a student's needs require assistance from the supervising speech-language pathologist. The assistant requires limited supervision in indirect services.
Required Qualifications:
Applicant must have:
A. Earned a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent,
B. Attained one of the following:
a. 2 year associate's certification in Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, or
b. Bachelor's degree in speech, language and hearing or communication disorders
C. Experience as a paraprofessional in the school setting preferred
D. The ability to establish a positive working relationship with peers and supervisors.
Experience and/or training in language and/or articulation therapy preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to speak Spanish
• Positive experience working with adolescents
• Experience working in a K-12 school setting
Essential Functions for this Position:
Assists in the implementation of program designed by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist to increase students' speech skills
Obtains case histories, completes observation checklists, and tabulates and scores tests
Administer or assist in the administration and scoring of assessment for interpretation by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist
Assist the Speech Language Pathologist during assessment of students or work with parents.
Administer and score progress monitoring created or indicated by supervising Speech Language Pathologist.
Confers with therapists, teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information
Attends meetings (e.g. IEP conferences, parent meetings, in-services, etc.) for the purpose of providing information regarding students' functional goals
Assists in the preparation of documentation (e.g. evaluations, IEPs, observations, progress, contacts with parents, teachers, and outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support for developing recommendations and/or conveying information
Transports students to/from testing or therapy areas
Research resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the determination of appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals
Assists with screening students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment
Develop low-tech AAC materials for students and families
Program augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
Manages behavior using appropriately designed management techniques
Completes random moments in time studies as required by MAC program guidelines
Arranges the educational setting to maintain a safe and positive environment
Organizes and manages student data and records
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives
Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge
Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Completes work at assigned workstations
Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner
Performs other duties as assigned
Salary
:
$33.50-$40.00 hourly, Depending on experience and qualifications
$.50 per hour additional for employees with an Associate of Arts degree or higher
$.50 per hour additional for employees who fluently speak, write, and read Spanish
Work schedule:
Temporary position for the school year: M-F (excluding non-school days), 6.5 hours per day - for the remainder of the school year.
