STATUS: Full Time/Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: $32. 32/hour including paid medical insurance as well as paid time off (vacation, health, & holidays)

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, evenings will be required

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Youth Services at the SF LGBT Center include structured group programming, crisis intervention, navigation & referral services, leadership development, a dedicated drop-in youth space, on-site individual and group mental health services (therapy/counseling/crisis management). Low-barrier services are designed to reach disconnected lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth ages 16-24. The program is rooted in community building, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, client-centered care and harm reduction models. A high percentage of program participants have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse, homelessness, engagement with criminal justice and/or foster care systems, substance use/abuse, and/or mental health challenges.

Role Overview: Under the direction of the Associate Director of Youth Services, the TAY Service Navigator serves transitional age youth (TAY) experiencing homelessness with short-term case management, resources, and referral services. This position also provides Youth Access Point services through partnerships with the San Francisco Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing (HSH) and other stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Service Screening & Referrals: Use standardized tools in the ONE System database to screen participants, conduct housing assessments, and make authorized referrals to housing programs and Problem-Solving Services for homeless youth.

• Data Management: Ensure timely and accurate entry of participant data into the ONE System, maintain data integrity, enroll participants, complete housing applications, submit referrals, and connect participants with community resources.

• Participant Engagement: Conduct interviews with youth in immediate need, offering empathetic, trauma-informed, housing-first, and harm-reduction approaches.

• Training: Complete onboarding and required training on Coordinated Entry, the ONE System, Problem Solving, and professional development through various platforms.

• Resource Navigation: Work with an interdisciplinary team to connect youth to housing, public benefits, and advocacy support, and attend relevant meetings.

• Community Collaboration: Maintain strong relationships with TAY Access Point providers, government agencies, and LGBTQ/TAY-serving organizations.

• Outreach & Program Promotion: Participate in outreach activities, support partner organizations, and maintain referral networks and program supplies.

• Team Support: Actively contribute to the program team and provide backup support for the youth drop-in space as needed.

• Evening and weekends hours may be required.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrated ability to engage with LGBTQ transitional-age youth experiencing homelessness through one-on-one and group-level interventions.

• Fluency in English is required. Bilingual Spanish or ASL skills are highly preferred.

• Criminal background and TB Test clearance required.

• This position is primarily office-based at the Center's 1800 Market Street location with an ability to negotiate a schedule of remote work up to a maximum of 20% time.

• Essential physical requirements:

• Must be able to operate a computer and other common office machinery such as a copier/fax/printer up to eight hours/day daily.

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of several hours daily.

• Must be able to conduct street and outdoor outreach.

• Must be able to lift to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.

• Must be able to work in a shared office space with 3 or more employees in the same office with moderate levels of noise.

• Hours are primarily Monday - Friday with occasional need for evening or weekend work. Work schedules are negotiable within a standard 10:00 am - 6:00 pm window.

• Local travel may be required to meetings or offsite events. Out of town travel is infrequent and negotiable. No car required.
