Job Summary

Under the supervision and direction of the Program Supervisor, the Coordinator/Counselor will be responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of the UCSF Fresno CMSP SJV-MedBridge curriculum and program activities.
The Coordinator/Counselor will also establish new organizational relationships with K-12, community college, university, and clinical partners in the San Joaquin Valley, to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in the curricular design and implementation process.
The Coordinator/Counselor will have a strong background in social determinants of health and be required to balance coordination duties with counseling support for scholars.
The counseling duties will require advanced knowledge of college & career advising course planning across 15 institutions of higher education, as well as principles of social-emotional development to support pre-health students as they navigate the healthcare pathway.
The Coordinator/Counselor will be responsible for training clinical mentors and supervising CMSP SJV-MedBridge college students in their clinical placements.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description

UCSF Fresno is a regional campus of UCSF School of Medicine located in California's Central Valley and the Department of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) is the administrative unit that oversees the Office of Health Career Pathways (OHCP).
The OHCP was established to provide programs and services that lead to student academic success and exploration of research and health careers, as well as better coordinate and increase the success of existing health pathway programs at UCSF Fresno.
UME provides services for 100 or more third-year students from UCSF as well as 300 or more visiting 4th-year medical students for clerkship rotations.
UCSF Fresno has several accredited Residency & Fellowship programs under the auspices of Graduate Medical Education.
The UCSF Fresno UME Office is responsible for implementation of all strategic directives for medical education at the Fresno campus and for ensuring that those who serve undergraduate students are actively engaged in the highest quality learning and teaching environment with a strong commitment to diversity and UCSF's PRIDE values.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• 5+ years experience in working with student populations from K-12 to college level
• Comprehensive experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers
• Advanced knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues.
  Ability to assess their impact on program strategies
• Advanced knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
  Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status
• Advanced knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.
  ), admissions and financial aid and scholarship requirements, and matriculation processes
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
  Ability to develop outreach programs, and design effective materials
• Advanced knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements
• Advanced knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation and urban youth
• Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple critical projects with deadlines.
  Strong project management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills.
  Leadership and supervisory skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related area
• Knowledge of state and national education policies and current education theories
• High-level skills in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of K-12 and higher education policies and issues, assesses their impact on program strategies, disseminates information to school-site and district personnel
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives
• Pupil Personnel Services Credential
