Summary

You will serve as a WELDER LEADER (PIPE EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.

The incumbent of this position will serve as an Expert Welder leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed. This position is located in the Structural Shop (Shop 26).

Duties

You will weld recently developed or experimental metals and alloys with welding properties that are not fully known, modify welding procedures, and recommend the most suitable metals and alloys for new or experimental applications.
You will aid junior Pipe Welders to ensure the crew(s) obtain a higher and more efficient first time success rate of welding work performed in production.
You will inspect completed and in process work for quality of workmanship and adherence to requirements, specifications, standards, plans and schedules.
You will ensure plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available for specific jobs.
You will keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements associated, approved, and adopted for welding work.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
This position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e. g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
This position requires the ability to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships and submarines, and occasional work work from ladders, platforms and staging areas.
This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
This position requires rotating shift work.
Must maintain visual inspection qualifications per VT-271.
Must maintain radiological worker (R) qualification.
Must maintain qualifications in GTAW.

Salary is based on geographical location and is subject to change with the annual local wage surveys in accordance with the provisions of 5 CFR Part 532 for all employees whose official duty station is located within the geographic boundary of the wage area definition.
