Specialty Care Transport SCT Director, Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations, the CCT Director provides the vision, leadership, and motivation necessary for the development of a high-quality specialty care transport (SCT) team. The SCT Director works in close collaboration with the training team to develop and provide ongoing training, education, and quality assurance programs to support the SCT program. The SCT Director role is a leader, a trainer, as well as a nurse as the county requires this position to have active unit hours, as well.

Compensation: $120,000. 00 to $170,000. 00/annually - Exempt

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Oversees the SCT program in conjunction with the Vice President of Operations:
• Interviews, assesses, selects, and orients nurses for the SCT program
• Schedules training shifts, assigns training partner, and assesses readiness for independent work as an RN on the SCT team
• Maintains credentialed staff by keeping abreast of advances and specialty opportunities in new and emerging medical services and technologies
• Oversees continuing education and skills check-off to maintain a highly skilled and trained staff to function at their highest level
• Maintains documentation of RN/RCP orientation
• Maintains department files of credentials, CEUs, and county required documents for SCT staff
• Performs all the duties of a Specialty Care Transport (SCT) nurse including:
• Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements
• Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients and their support teams
• Promotes patient awareness by establishing patient care goals, educating patient and family regarding illness or disease process, treatment rendered while in the care of the SCT team
• Ensures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments by collaborating with team members and multidisciplinary members; staying current with SCT guidelines and required in-services, training, and staff meetings
• All other duties and requirements outlined in the CCT RN job description
• Defines nurse/paramedic/ EMT practices by encouraging and supporting quality improvement efforts
• Supports operational needs including, but not limited to, medical equipment troubleshooting and repair, ALS/SCT bag inventory, and providing support for clinical questions
• Identifies and develops SCT nursing requirements by establishing rapport across interdisciplinary services
• Interprets and provides feedback on all clinical information
• Participates in clinical investigations
• Ensures continuity of services while adhering to all laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as they pertain to the SCT program
• Represents the organization by establishing and maintaining relationships with hospitals; maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with our partner hospitals as well as other SCT teams
• Acts as an ongoing mentor for the SCT staff
• Participates in regular staff meetings to ensure tasks are completed and the needs of the customers, patients, employees, and program are being met
• Continually assesses the needs of the SCT program and makes recommendations
• Monitors the chart audits for SCT
• Regularly reviews and updates SCT orders as needed
• Communicates and collaborates with the Director of Training and Safety on pertinent issues
• Communicates and collaborates with the Medical Director on pertinent issues
• Other duties as assigned

• Associates, Bachelors, or diploma in Nursing from an accredited college or university
• Active, unencumbered California state nursing license
• Two (2) or more years of experience in a critical care environment (ED, ICU) in a large tertiary care facility that provides high-acuity patients with a wide range of diagnoses
• One (1) or more years of experience in a critical care transport environment (air or ground)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• Driving record (K4) must be satisfactory for company's insurance requirements
• Experience, education, or documented ability to function in a leadership capacity. Able to coordinate, educate, and lead an SCT program
• Have extensive knowledge of the uses, dosages, and side effects of medications as they apply to different disease states and the ability to clinically assess whether or not a medication is effective
• Ability to teach subjects pertinent to the SCT environment
• Proficient computer skills to include typing and ability navigate different software systems

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent experience
• CEN/CCRN certification

• Must attend EMS Agency Orientation within six (6) months of hire
• Must have a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and able to work additional shifts as needed
• Able to rotate shift assignments as needed and/or required based on operational need

• Must be able to perform the following tasks:

• • Walk - frequently, up to 10 hours per day
  • Run - infrequently, 1-2 minutes per day
  • Stand - frequently, up to 10 hours per day
  • Sit - frequently, up to 10 hours per day
  • Kneel - frequently, 10-15 times per day
  • Bend - frequently, 10-15 times per day

• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds in each hand to transport equipment from ambulance to patient location to provide treatment up to 7 times per shift
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairways carrying up to 35 pounds in each hand to patient location up to 7 times per shift
• Must be able to lift, with assistance, a 75 to 150-pound oxygen cylinder into the ambulance
• Must be able to provide patient care while stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, frequently, up to 10 hours per shift
• Must have ability to step up and/or climb over obstacles
• Must be able to perform repetitive hand movements, such as typing, frequently, up to 5 hours per shift
• Must have adequate hearing acuity to perform job tasks (as delineated in California DMV DL51 medical examination requirements)
• Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly distinguish colors, shapes, distances, etc. (as delineated in California DMV DL51 medical examination requirements)
• Must have adequate hand and finger dexterity to grip and hold both large and small items
• Must have adequate hand and arm strength to grip and lift heavy objects
• Must be able to tolerate work in an outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, etc. )
