Homes For All California Director Multiple Cities

• The position is both remote and in-person.
Must live in California (no specific city) be willing and able to perform day-to-day work tasks remotely, and must also be willing and able to travel 5-8 times a year for in-person work

HFA - California Director:
The Homes for All-California's Director will be responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the organization, cultivating, maintaining, and growing current and potential strategic relationships with movement partners and funders in the California housing justice ecosystem, representing HFA-Ca in key spaces where movement-level decisions and conversations are taking place for the sake of advancing HFA-Ca's vision and supporting in the testing of our hypothesis and implementation of our yearly goals and work plan.
HFA-Ca's Director will support and supervise the Statewide Coordinator who is responsible for member engagement to ensure the implementation of the work plan and continuity from the membership to the statewide movement spaces.
HFA-Ca's Director will report directly to the HFA-CA Steering Committee.

Strategic Development and Implementation

• Collaborate with the HFA-CA Steering Committee, Regional Organizer, and our membership to develop and refine organizational strategy, ensuring alignment with HFA-CA's mission and vision
• Identify and prioritize strategic opportunities for partnership and movement development within the California housing justice ecosystem.
  
• Lead the development of strategic work-plans to test hypotheses and advance organizational goals
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of strategic initiatives, making adjustments as needed
• Provide regular updates and reflections to the Steering Committee and membership, fostering transparency and collective learning within the organization.
  

Partnership and Movement Development

• Ongoing management of key partnership action plans which includes
• Tracking relevant movement spaces and conversations that HFA-Ca needs to participate in
• Managing contacts and connecting with and cultivating relationships with key partners
• Bringing back updates, reflections and synthesis to Steering Committee and membership
• Working with the HFA-CA Steering Committee, Regional Coordinator and/or relevant HFA-Ca membership working groups to develop relevant curriculum, materials, and reports to support strategic development and the continuity between Ca-wide movement work and our local membership
• Represent HFA-Ca in complex movement spaces with strategic partners;
• Participate in the planning teams for regional and statewide assemblies to ensure program activities that advance movement alignment.
  

Development & Fundraising

• Serve as lead for relationship building and prospecting with funders
• Develop and implement ongoing funder partnerships strategy
• Support with liaising between Right to the City Alliance (our fiscal sponsor) and HFA CA steering committee
• Responsible for writing & submitting grant reports with HFA CA member/steering committee support
• Work with the Right to the City Resource Development team to identify funding opportunities and lead in the development of grant applications and grant reporting.
  
• Manage HFA CA annual budget and work with Right to the City staff to provide reports.
  
• Lead the planning and implementation of funder convenings in connection to statewide assemblies.
  
• Work with HFA Steering Committee members on a fundraising plan that includes fundraising for the coalition and its member's participation.
  
• Manage acknowledgment, reporting, and stewardship for grant contracts, funder commitments, and partnership agreements.
  

Support and Supervision

• Ensure regular check-ins and progress monitoring with existing staff and steering committee members.
  
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide consistent feedback to staff
• Collaboratively develop budgets to ensure appropriate resource allocation
• Ensure there is a supportive work environment by proactively identifying professional development opportunities and trainings for staff and ensuring work and practice is aligned with organizational vision and values

Other

• In addition to these core responsibilities, the Strategic Partnerships Coordinator will be assigned other work deemed necessary by HFA-CA members.
  HFA-CA Steering Committee will work with Strategic Partnerships Coordinator to help prioritize work

Required Experience and Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 year experience with organizational development, movement/coalition building and fundraising
• A minimum of 1 year experience in housing/labor/community organizing;
• Experience with regional, coalition development preferred
• Experience living and/or working in California with low income communities and/or communities of color
• Significant experience with grassroots community or labor organizing and leadership development and base building
• Experience with campaign organizing, coalition coordination, campaign management, and leadership development around issues of social justice in California
• Understanding of the political structure of the California Knowledge of the non-profit sector and labor sector in California
• Understanding of progressive politics in relation to racial, economic, and gender equity
• Knowledge of tenants rights and history of land use in California, as related to racial and economic equity.
  
• Significant work plan development experience
• Understanding of the importance and nature of strategic planning in advocacy campaigns
• Bilingual (both written and spoken) in Spanish and English or another non-English language commonly spoken in California is preferred but NOT required
• Ability to travel across the state 3-4 times a year, and nationally 2-3 times a year.
