DescriptionJOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Medical Assistant III for AMC works cooperatively as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for assisting nursing/medical staff in the treatment and management of clients on-site in our outpatient Addiction Medicine Clinic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assists with client medications:
    • Allergy/medication reconciliation
    • Coordinates refill requests, manage REMS pharmacy medications
    • Processes new medication orders
    • Submits prior authorizations
    • Provides education as directed by LMP
  2. Performs patient/client care responsibilities considering needs that are specific to the standard of care for the age of the patient/client;
  3. Updates Electronic Health Record with medication and/or treatment changes and/or any additional communication as appropriate;
  4. Coordinates treatment plan:
    • Facilitates ordered lab work to include obtaining UAs/oral swabs for drug screening
    • Obtains and organizes outside records and results
  5. Coordinates communication with primary care clinics and behavioral health clinics, including providing written communication following appointments;
  6. Takes and records vital signs including height, weight, BMI, and waist circumference when necessary; Alerts LMP of abnormal VS and/trends;
  7. Assists with ride/transportation coordination and coordination for medical visits;
  8. Gathers health information including screenings, health history, and standing orders;
  9. Maintains medical supplies, REMS medications and equipment;
  10. Reviews emails and responds or refers as appropriate;
  11. Fully understands and strictly complies with HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR, and OSHA guidelines, and maintains compliance with OARs for Behavioral Health and AMC clinics;
  12. Assists with procedures, treatments, and rooming for the clinic as needed;
  13. Transcribes provider orders into Electronic Health Record as needed;
  14. Communicates with families and treatment teams regarding medication or treatment changes as appropriate;
  15. Provides other competencies as directed by supervisors within the scope of training;
  16. Maintains a collaborative working relationship with staff;
  17. Is flexible with duties and requirements of job as they evolve;
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Must have previous experience as a Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician, taking and recording vital signs
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Current CMA, CCMA, or EMT certification, or new LPN graduate
  • Current CPR or BLS certification
  • Must maintain a valid Oregon Driver License or ability to obtain one upon hire, and be insurable under the organization's auto liability coverage policy (minimum 21 years of age and with no Type A violations in the past 3 years, or three (3) or more Type B violations)
  • For individuals in recovery from substance-use disorder, must have maintained continuous recovery for the previous two (2) years at the time of hire
PREFERRED:
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
  • Some experience in a healthcare setting a plus
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Must have demonstrated competency or ability to obtain competency within a reasonable period for each of the following:
  • Demonstrated ability to perform treatments and provide services to the level of education/licensure/certification and within their approved scope of practice;
  • Is emotionally and physically stable to work with the clientele, model self-care skills, and assist the patient/client in meeting their goals;
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), EHR databases, virtual meeting platforms, internet, and ability to learn new or updated software;
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written);
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through;
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills that can impact safety of self and others;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR, the Employee Handbook and all privacy and security regulations;
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with co-workers as well as other departments/disciplines;
  • Ability to function well and use good judgment in a high-paced and at times stressful environment;
  • Ability to manage conflict resolution and anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately and effectively;

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer/laptop, copy/fax/scanning machine, printer, telephone or multi-line phone; Medical equipment including blood pressure cuff (digital and manual), pulse oximeter, digital thermometer, glucometers, venipuncture equipment, AED, stethoscope, gait belt, oxygen tanks and tubing, and in residential programs, C-PAP equipment.
