Position Highlights
The College of Information Science at the University of Arizona seeks multiple tenure-track Assistant and Associate Professors who conduct researchin the multidisciplinary fields of Game Design and Development, Serious Games, and Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality.

Duties & Responsibilities

We welcome all candidates working within game development, but are especially interested in candidates with any of the following expertise:

Novel interactions, algorithms, and game mechanics.
Game hardware and tools for game creation (e. g. , game engines)
Serious games/games developed for improved player experiences (e. g. , games for health, wellbeing, and learning).
Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.
Game design and understanding player experience.
Technologies of sound.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong research agenda, the ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary department, the ability to teach in multiple modalities and levels (e. g. both undergraduate and graduate), and skill in mentoring students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds. Successful candidates will ideally bring a record of working on grant-funded teams, and/or will demonstrate promise for obtaining grants in the future. The position is an on campus (in-person) faculty post, expected to begin in August 2025.

The faculty member will teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and contribute to mentoring students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds. The faculty member will also participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. In these and other ways, the faculty member will help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in information studies or closely related fields, such as game development, game design, digital media, computer science, cognitive science, etc.
Evidence of focused/established/impactful scholarly agenda in the broadly defined area of game design and development, as indicated by research statement and publication history, consistent with applicable faculty rank.
Record of teaching effectiveness as indicated by teaching statement, awards, and/or teaching experience.
Evidence of potential to develop extramural funding.

Preferred Qualifications

Record of working on funded grant teams.
Evidence of or demonstrated potential for positive mentoring experiences of undergraduate or graduate students.
Record of working across disciplines with faculty, students, and staff.
