The Role:

The Water Services Security Officer provides security for the City's water and sewer critical infrastructure. Duties include monitoring video surveillance, alarms, and access control systems; patrolling water/wastewater plants and remote sites; managing inbound calls and dispatching service responders; and documenting and reporting suspicious activity.

Salary:

This position is:

FLSA on-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
A Grade 309 with an hourly salary between $19. 5577 - $29. 3365.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:
Regular status positions offer:

The City of Glendale observes 10. 5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.
Vacation leave accrues at:
- 5. 33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17. 25* days per year)
- Increases to 6. 12 hours after 5 years
- Then caps out at 7. 6 hours after 10 years of service.
Sick leave accrues at 4. 4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14. 25 days* per year).

• Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.

Retirement:

This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

The current contribution rate is 12. 27%.
Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.

Essential Functions

Monitors CCTV, alarm and access control systems, and other physical security and emergency systems.
Conducts vehicle and foot patrols of water and wastewater critical infrastructure sites.
Reports and records site security deficiencies, suspicious activities, and emergencies.
Monitors employee, visitor, and vehicle ingress and egress and prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas.
Monitors personnel working in hazardous conditions to ensure their safety.
Documents activities and prepares incident reports.
Manages inbound calls; identifies and assesses customers' needs; and coordinates and dispatches after-hour emergency service responders.
Operates portable radios and/or phones to maintain police contact.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success FactorsMinimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience as a security officer or police officer.

The preferred candidate for this role will have previous experience securing critical infrastructure such as roadways, railways, electrical, or water utility infrastructure.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Knowledge of:

Industrial security practices
Electronic security alarms and systems

Skill in:

Analyzing and reacting to emergency situations

Ability to:

Handle encounters with irate or hostile individuals
Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
Effectively communicate orally and in writing
Operate city vehicles, depending on area of assignment

Special Requirements:

Valid Arizona driver's license.
May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
