We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Associate Director of State/Federal Government Affairs to join our team. This hybrid position will play a critical role in managing state-level government affairs for three of the following Northeast states: VA, NJ, DE, MD, and PA while also supporting our federal government affairs portfolio. The ideal candidate will be based in Washington, DC, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This position will report to the

Director of Government Affairs (Northeast)

and work closely with the

Senior Director of Federal Affairs

and the

Director of Federal Campaigns and Strategy

to ensure seamless coordination of advocacy efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

State Government Affairs:

Serve as the primary liaison for state legislative and executive branch engagements in three of the following states: VA, NJ, DE, MD, and PA.
Build and maintain strong relationships with state legislators, governors' offices, and state agencies.
Monitor and track state-level legislation and policy developments, providing timely updates and strategic recommendations to the team.
Develop and execute advocacy strategies to advance organizational priorities at the state level.
Coordinate with internal teams to support grassroots advocacy and coalition-building efforts in assigned states.
Federal Government Affairs:

Assist in lobbying efforts, including scheduling and attending meetings with Members of Congress and their staff.
Monitor and track federal legislation, hearings, and administrative actions relevant to the organization's mission.
Draft briefing materials, talking points, campaign assets, and memos for federal meetings and engagements.
Represent the organization at hearings, coalition meetings, and other federal events as needed.
Collaborate with the federal affairs team to ensure seamless integration of state and federal advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
5+ years of experience in government affairs, legislative work, or advocacy, with at least some experience in both state and federal policy arenas.
Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes at both state and federal levels.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to craft persuasive messages and briefing materials.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with policymakers and stakeholders.
Willingness to travel periodically within the Northeast region and for federal advocacy work.
Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with the political landscape and key stakeholders in VA, MD, DE, NJ, and PA.
Experience using legislative tracking tools and CRM systems.
A proactive and solutions-oriented approach to advocacy and problem-solving.

The annual salary range for this position is $97,000-$110,000. Everytown offers a generous benefits package including Medical, Dental and Vision benefits, PTO, 401K Match, Education Assistance and more.
