Required Education and/or Experience:

• Master's degree in education, academic advising, student affairs, or related field OR a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years of experience in a job-related field may be substituted for the degree requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

• Experience in higher education settings and experience with complex database systems, specifically Boss, Banner, DegreeWorks, and Workday Student.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Advise:

• Serve as a student advocate to help ensure student success using holistic advising theory;

• Develop, maintain, and appropriately handle multiple complex tasks including applicant and student databases;

• Manage the student advising for CBHHS current and prospective students with a particular focus on pre-admitted students until the transition to the appropriate academic program advisor;

• Provide advising appointments in the format most accessible to students, including in person, via phone, or online;

• Work with late admission students to ensure class schedules for the semester;

• Serve as essential personnel (remotely) during university closure due to inclement weather in order to prevent disruption of services to students;

• Ability to advise student organizational groups within CBHHS as appropriate;

• Assist with the development and maintenance of advising and retention programs.

Collaborate:

• Work closely with Admissions to recruit prospective students, including participation in large scale events and advising on-site or prior to events such as Discovery Day;

• Work closely with the Learning Center, the Care Team, and Student Support Specialists (social work team) to provide tutoring, coaching, and supportive services for students;

• Assist with special events, recruitment efforts, and retention functions;

• Work with faculty and program directors to track program changes and ensure changes to degree plans are included in advising;

• Work with the Director of Student Services and the AVC for Academic Affairs to identify the need for additional course sections in core courses, scheduling concerns with concurrent classes, need for transcript articulation and test scores.

Manage Data:

• Navigate and work in all student technology systems including Boss, DegreeWorks, Image Now, and Workday Student;

• Manage student advising files for the transition from Degree Works to Student Workday;

• Maintain advising assignments in BOSS (similar systems) and facilitate a seamless transition from professional advisor to faculty advisors;

• Track student scholarship, enrollment, and progression data.

Other Duties:

• Manage all assigned projects;

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of student advising and/or student services;

• Knowledge of Internet and conventional office technology tools is required, including but not limited to email, Internet search engines, and software applications such as Word, Excel, and WordPress;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Ability to work sensitively with diverse audiences, including students, the public, faculty, staff, and administrators;

• Strong communication skills across a variety of media formats and helps to develop and maintain content for web pages and social media venues;

• Ability to adapt to and apply new technology;

• Strong problem-solving skills;

• Ability to self-initiate project tasks after accepting an assignment under general supervision;

• Ability to travel in state. Reliable transportation is required;

• Knowledge of confidentially sensitive information regarding student, college, and record information;

• Ability to work a flexible work schedule which may include nights and weekends;

• Ability to use customer service initiatives with clients and the campus community;

• Ability to appropriately handle multiple complex tasks that have been concurrently assigned with accuracy, attention to detail, and meet supervisor expectations;

• Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and within established deadlines;
