Duties

The Specialty Care Clinic Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) selected for this position is accountable to the Associate Nurse Executive for Ambulatory Care and works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and within identified Specialty Care outpatient clinic teams. Responsible for the observation, treatment and care of the Veteran within the scope of Registered Nurse practice.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

* Assists in the overall clinic management, functions and operations, facilitation of patient flow through the check in and check out process.

* Provides patient education and/or instructions based on identified needs, education level and ability to learn and validates understanding with appropriate documentation in the medical record.

* Works with multiple specialty clinics.

* Participates in job/systems redesign activities and other activities that enhance patient care and clinic operations.

* Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality.

* Assists with care coordination, management and facilitates coordination of all services for the patient in the Specialty Care Clinic.

* Works with the patient, significant other and health care team to establish patient centered care.

* Demonstrates the knowledge and skill sufficient to assist with procedures and use of reusable medical equipment as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures.

* Observation and documentation will include clinical reminders and the reporting of any noted change in the patient's condition to the Physician.

* Provides leadership in interpreting, supporting and implementing Medical Center and Ambulatory Care Department philosophy, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and quality improvement processes.

* Serves as consultant in clinical practice. Communicates and works effectively with others. Initiates and leads groups of personnel and interdisciplinary groups.

* Further the qualified RN accepts responsibility and maintains accountability for actions and continued professional growth.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

* English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

* Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing t.
