Department's Website:Summary of Job Duties:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Appointment Business Center will navigate and perform patient scheduling, and referral management of internal and external patient referrals, and will triage complex scheduling requests in electronic health record systems while in a call center environment. The RN will work closely with service lines, clinics, and providers to appropriately schedule new and returning patients from internal or external provider referrals. The RN will be responsible for reviewing and requesting clinical documentation as appropriate. Will be required to identify, differentiate, or rule out non-urgent/urgent, non-acute/acute, emergent, life-threatening symptoms in order to provide safe and timely disposition of referrals. Responds to patient inquiries, prioritizes responses, and routes urgent situations to an appropriate provider. Maintains accurate and appropriate documentation and follows patient privacy in accordance with HIPPA and UAMS policies and procedures. Performs to the level of a licensed registered nurse as dictated by the Arkansas Nurse Practice Act and UAMS. The RN will utilize decision-making software and the application of a variety of procedures, policies, and/or precedents relating to both the standards and procedures of the nursing profession and those established by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Qualifications:Required:

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with an Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Masters in Nursing.
Valid RN License
Minimum of 1 year of Registered Nursing experience
Current BLS Certification
Strong computer and typing skills.

Preferred:

3 years of Registered Nursing experience
Nurse triage, appointment scheduling, patient access, or clinic nursing
Call center experience
ACLS certification or obtain certification within one year of hire date.

Responsibilities:

Manages internal and external patient referrals by assessing the health concerns and symptoms via clinical documentation review within a call center setting.
Schedules appointments, responds to and prioritizes incoming patient calls as needed.
Telephone interactions require assessment, patient education, and at times crisis intervention.
Responds to patient questions appropriately while providing reassurance and responding to concerns.
Maintains accurate and detailed records with pertinent information and education within Epic.
Utilizes current nursing practice to provide patient-focused care while exemplifying service excellence, care, concern, respect, and cooperation.
Acts as a resource and mentor for access coordinators within the Appointment Business Center.
Other duties may be assigned to this position.
