Global Maritime Market Sector Director

Primary Responsibilities

Market Sector Directors (MSD) are one part of the HDR matrix management structure that drive our business.
At HDR, our Global Maritime Market Sector includes port and maritime clients that own, operate, lease, and develop facilities that connect water to land for the purpose of moving people and goods from water to land and land to water and on to a final destination.
An understanding of these interfaces along with the interaction of ports to truck, train or vehicle, global security, investments, and supply chain are the foundation of this role.
The primary responsibilities of the Global Maritime Market Sector Director are divided into three areas:

Market leadership and business development (+/- 60%)
Staff development (20%)
Support to Operations (20%)

The Market Sector Director will facilitate the development and implementation of business strategies in coordination with Business Group leadership, operational leadership, client managers, business class directors, and practice group leaders.
Responsible to the Transportation Business Group (TBG) Market Strategy Director, the Market Sector Director maintains frequent and regular communication with region and area business group leadership to implement the strategic growth plans and operating plans at the market sector level.

Business Development Responsibilities

Oversee the creation and implementation of strategic vision and direction for the market sector.
Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients within the market sector.
Engage in selected projects as Principal-In-Charge.
Promote the marketing and delivery of all HDR services to clients within the market sector.
Participate as a member of the Transportation Business Group Management Team.
Work with Regional Business Group Directors on development and delivery of area goals and market sector initiatives.
Support selected area and strategic pursuits through client relationship development and participation in pursuit activities.
Participate in industry associations at a leadership level.

Staff Development Responsibilities

Assume responsibility for Global Market Sector P&L in coordination with local area managers.
Work with business class directors to drive technical excellence and coordinate technical staff.
Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires and assist local leadership as necessary.

Support to Operations

The Market Sector Director will assist Regional Business Group Directors and area Business Group managers in the delivery of professional services for area projects within the market sector.
Key responsibilities include helping to drive client management, monitoring market sector profit and loss, and ensuring project delivery and supporting the QA/QC program.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field.
A minimum of 12 years industry experience including leadership.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong skills in client management and client development.
Strong business skills; specifically handling budgets, staff, and operational issues.
