Description

Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, the employee performs custodial duties to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned City buildings and facilities. The employee operates various pieces of cleaning equipment. The employee maintains a supply inventory and prepares materials a list of materials as needed. The employee dilutes and mixes cleaning agents according to directions. Work is usually performed in accordance with well-defined procedures. This job is considered safety and security-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment background check and drug screen.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Custodial Duties. The employee performs custodial duties ensuring the cleanliness of assigned City buildings and facilities.

1. Ensures the assigned facilities are properly cleaned and sanitized.
2. Cleans and disinfects restrooms.
3. Restocks paper items and cleaning supplies.
4. Sweeps, strips, mops, waxes, and buffs floors.
5. Washes and disinfects water fountains.
6. Empties and washes trash cans; replaces liners in trash cans.
7. Vacuums carpets; shampoos periodically.
8. Dusts and cleans windows.
9. Sweeps sidewalks and porches.
10. Gathers trash around the building.
11. Dusts furniture and cleans blinds and counters.
12. Replenishes and restocks bathroom consumables.
13. Cleans kitchen/break facilities.
14. Rearranges furniture as needed.
15. Cleans multi-purpose room.
16. Reports any discovered maintenance problems to supervisor.
17. Opens and closes buildings as required.
18. Inventories cleaning supplies and notes needed items; orders supplies.
19. Prepares and mixes cleaning solutions according to labeled concentrate instructions.
20. Maintains activity log and supply inventory.

1. Changes light bulbs.
2. Waters plants around City buildings.
3. Performs simple plumbing procedures (i.e., clear plugged toilet) as required.
4. Touches up paint on walls.

1. Decorates buildings during holiday seasons.
2. Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

1. Ability to read and write.
2. Minimum of one (1) year of practical work experience in custodial and facility maintenance; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.
3. Possess a current and valid driver's license; must be insurable.
4. Ability to work non-standard hours.
5. Ability to travel to City buildings.
6. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

19. Ability to push carts, carry trashcans, and move furniture for cleaning.
20. Ability to climb small ladders less than 10 feet tall.
