Job Summary
The Counterman lab in the Department of Biological Sciences of the College of Science and Mathematics at Auburn University is looking to hire a full-time Lab Technician. The primary duties for the job are assisting with lab management and conducting molecular biology techniques to study gene expression and genome variation in butterflies.

Essential Functions
Duties include lab management, such as ordering and stocking supplies, equipment maintenance and management, and personnel management. In addition, the duties include performing molecular biology methods, such as DNA and RNA extractions, PCR, sequencing, sequence library preparation, as well as organismal dissections, microscopy, and high-resolution imaging. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Level I - High school diploma or equivalent plus zero years of relevant experience

Level II - High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of relevant experience

Level III - High school diploma or equivalent plus four years of relevant experience.

Relevant degrees may substitute for years of experience.

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Excellent leadership skills
Experience with molecular biology techniques
Knowledge of Laboratory Safety Requirements and Procedures

Desired Qualifications
Education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution with a major in any area of Life Sciences. Experience with DNA and RNA work and/or high-resolution microscopy.
