JOB SUMMARY
This is a split position devoting time between being a Transfusion Safety Officer as well as overseeing the blood management program. The provider will work under general supervision to coordinate and align departmental Advanced Practice Provider processes and quality improvement efforts with established Health System goals and initiatives. Provides diagnostic and therapeutic patient management in accordance with current scope of practice, licensure, and privileges.
As the Transfusion Safety Officer, the role involves overseeing and optimizing the use of blood and blood products to improve patient outcomes, reduce blood transfusion-related risks, and enhance overall patient care. The Transfusion Safety Officer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, develop and implement evidence-based protocols, and provide education and training to healthcare staff.
This position requires a thorough understanding of and adherence to regulatory standards.

Experience

5 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in an acute care facility
JOB DUTIES
Manages utilization of various resources to maintain maximum efficiency and meet performance objectives.
Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality as appropriate.
Define program scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders; develop full-scale program plans and associated communications documents; communicate effectively program expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
Set and continually manage program expectations with team members and other stakeholders; delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel; identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the program team.
Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the program team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas; proactively manage changes in program scope, identify potential crises and devise contingency plans.
In the clinical setting, will provide diagnostic and therapeutic management of patients within their scope of practice, licensure and privileges.
Accurately and efficiently collects historical and physical data, synthesizes information to diagnose, develop plan of care and amend care accordingly.
Maintains complete and accurate records of contacts with patients whether in Collaborate with the PBM Medical Director and Clinical Laboratory Administrator to oversee the day-to-day clinical and administrative activities of the UTSW PBM program
Evaluate patients with anemia before surgery, determine the cause(s) of anemia, prescribe appropriate treatments, make necessary referrals for additional diagnostic evaluations, and perform follow-up evaluations for treatment responses
Primarily handle clinical responsibilities in the outpatient environment, with occasional inpatient consultations for hospitalized patients
Develop and improve novel clinical programs through close communication with stakeholders across various clinical practices
Work collaboratively with internal and external multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, blood suppliers, and transfusion services staff, to ensure efficient management of blood transfusion programs, producing quality patient outcomes while reducing overall costs
Participate in assessments, training sessions, implementation, educational activities, and the collection and dissemination of meaningful data; support performance improvement activities; and act as a regulatory and accreditation resource for hospital staff
Serve as a content expert for perioperative optimization, including evaluating and treating anemia and the health of patients cared for at UTSW.
