Accountant
Location: Corporate Office - Greenville, SC
Summary
Under regular supervision of the Assistant Controller, the Accountant is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions of the apartment properties managed by NHE, Inc. The Accountant also participates in internal operational audits of properties. The Accountant may also take direction from the Vice President of Finance from time to time.
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs systems input to include receipts and payables and journal entries.
Prepares journal entries.
Commits funds for properties using established guidelines for priority payment types and vendors and taking into account. operating cash balances and near-term obligations.
Prints and processes checks for certain properties otherwise accounted for by other Accountants.
Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and follows up on outstanding uncleared items timely.
Reconciles restricted and escrow accounts.
Prepares monthly Excel schedules (insurance, tax, amortization, mortgage).
Calculates Management Fees.
Prepares 9250 s for HUD reimbursement and/or Capital reimbursement forms for lender reimbursement.
Performs month end close for assigned properties by deadline.
Maintains supporting schedules for capital budgets and expenditures.
Reviews financial statements for consistency and accuracy.
Investigates budget vs. actual variances and records any necessary correcting journal entries.
Prepares monthly financial summary and commentaries including key performance indicators, financial results, explanations for budget variances, review of balance sheet items, capital expenditures, and quarterly operations review information.
Works with Area and Regional Managers as needed.
Assists Controller and Operations Management with development of annual budgets and projections.
Assist Controller with year-end financial audits.
Participates in due diligence efforts upon request.
Other duties may be assigned.

V. EDUCATIONAL AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
VI. LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING ABILITY/OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong analytical skills and numeric reasoning skills required.
Ability to write financial reports, routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, fees, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
