SLU is located in the vibrant scientific community of Uppsala Sweden, which includes centers of excellence and world leaders in the field of molecular processes, genomics, biophysics, structural biology, evolutionary biology, ecology and plant biology.
The department consists of 18 research groups and approximately 75 employees and is active within research areas focused on plant development, diversity and defense.Subject areaThe subject encompasses physiological and molecular processes controlling plant growth, development and interactions with the surrounding environment.DutiesThe candidate should within the subject area:
develop and lead internationally outstanding researchdevelop, lead and participate in teaching at first, second and third cycle levelcollaborate with other research groups within SLU to strengthen the university's interdisciplinary activitiesdevelop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant authorities, industries, organizations and society in generalapply for external research fundscontribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLUcommunicate research results and other relevant subject information to the surrounding communitycarry out administrative tasks within the department, the faculty and the universityQualificationsThe applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
PhD or have equivalent academic qualificationsresearch expertise in the subject areateaching expertise and ability to integrate research and a scientific approach into teachinggood knowledge of EnglishAssessment criteriaIn the assessment criteria for employment, the primary consideration should be the level of skill required for eligibility for the position.
When assessing the research expertise, the following will be assessed:
completed and ongoing research in the subject areaability to independently initiate and conduct outstanding researchability to obtain external research funds in competitionWhen assessing the teaching expertise, the following will be assessed:
planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of own teachingsupervision and examination of doctoral studentsability to integrate research and a scientific approach into pedagogical workthe candidate's pedagogical vision and personal reflectionThe following skills will also be assessed:
ability to develop and lead activities and staff within the academycollaborations with external stakeholders and the surrounding communityability to communicate research and development workAs much attention must be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research expertise.
The position will be offered to the eligible candidate who, following a qualitative comprehensive assessment is deemed to have the best qualifications set to conduct and develop the duties in question, and contribute to the positive development of the organisation.Additional informationAn appointment as a University Lecturer at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is guaranteed funding for own research corresponding to 35% of a standard salary for a university lecturer at SLU.
In addition, the department guarantees the equivalent of 15% salary funds for research, teaching or administrative work.
A university lecturer is expected to finance the remaining 50% through external research funds or additional teaching efforts.
