Roles and responsibilities Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Intelligent Traffic Safety Specialist to join our team, who will provide strategic leadership, integrate advanced ITS technologies, engage with stakeholders, ensure regulatory compliance, and oversee quality control processes for high-impact transportation safety projects.What You'll Be Doing:
Safety Analysis and Assessment:
Conduct traffic safety studies, analyze crash data, and identify high-risk areas to develop targeted safety solutions.Road Safety Audits:
Perform safety audits for existing roadways and new designs, providing recommendations for improvements.Policy and Compliance:
Ensure traffic projects comply with safety regulations and standards, including MUTCD, AASHTO, and FHWA guidelines.Collaboration with Agencies:
Work closely with government agencies to develop and implement safety programs and initiatives.Public Safety Campaigns:
Support public outreach and safety education efforts to promote safe driving behaviors and reduce crashes.Traffic Safety AnalysisData Collection and Analysis:
Gather and analyze traffic accident data to identify trends, high-risk areas, and causes of collisions.Safety Audits:
Conduct road safety audits and inspections to assess the safety performance of existing and planned roadways.Crash Investigations:
Analyze crash reports and site conditions to develop strategies for preventing future incidents.Safety Planning and ImplementationRoad Safety Programs:
Develop and implement traffic safety programs, including initiatives targeting driver behavior, pedestrian safety, and vulnerable road users.Traffic Calming Measures:
Recommend and design interventions such as speed bumps, roundabouts, and pedestrian crossings to improve traffic flow and safety.Work Zone Safety:
Develop and oversee traffic management plans to ensure safety in construction and maintenance zones.
Desired candidate profile Expertise in traffic safety analysis, safety audit processes, and traffic data interpretation.Knowledge of relevant safety standards and guidelines, such as MUTCD and AASHTO.Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on detail and accuracy.Excellent communication skills, with experience in public outreach and stakeholder collaboration.What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 15+ years of experience in ITS project management, with 5+ years in a leadership role.Technical SkillsProficiency in traffic safety and accident analysis software (e.g., HCS, VISSIM, or GIS tools).Understanding of traffic engineering principles, roadway design standards, and human factors in transportation safety.Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and their applications.Analytical and Problem-Solving SkillsAbility to analyze large datasets to identify traffic safety trends and problem areas.Strong critical thinking skills to develop effective and innovative safety solutions.Communication and CollaborationExcellent verbal and written communication skills for public engagement, reporting, and stakeholder collaboration.Ability to work with diverse groups, including engineers, planners, policymakers, and the public.
