Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of the Iwi and Community group is to enable New Zealand Police to deliver 'Our Business' with and for Māori, Pacific, and Ethnic, and diverse communities. This is achieved through the development and delivery of strategy and initiatives designed to meet the needs of Māori, Pacific, Ethnic and other diverse communities and ensuring alignment with 'Our Values' of 'Commitment to Māori and the Treaty' and 'Valuing Diversity'.
The Iwi and Community workgroup also provides cultural leadership and advice to better enable Police to build and maintain trust and confidence with Māori, Pacific and Ethnic communities, with particular emphasis on the Māori Crown relationship.
The Prevention: Innovation & Change team supports the development, delivery, and evaluation of this work to deliver positive Iwi, community, and policing outcomes.
Te Pae Oranga is a supported resolution pathway that Police can use for dealing with eligible offending. Te Pae Oranga is delivered in partnership between iwi Māori and Police. It uses tikanga Māori and restorative justice principles in a panel setting to hold offenders to account, put right the harm, and address the underlying causes of offending. Over 20,000 people have been referred to Te Pae Oranga since the programme was started in 2013. Participation in Te Pae Oranga has been shown to reduce the harm from reoffending by 22.25% and improve the wellbeing of offenders, victims, and whānau.
The Te Pae Oranga Programme develops and supports the Te Pae Oranga service in partnership with frontline police and our iwi Providers around the country. The Senior Business Analyst provides business analysis services at a senior level (i.e. responsibilities are carried out at an advanced level - self-sufficiently, knowledgeably, and able to lead and guide the work of others).
