Mainstreet Whanganui is a not-for-profit organisation committed to enhancing and promoting the heart of Whanganui's Central Business District (CBD).
Since its establishment in 1991, the organisation has been dedicated to making the city centre a vibrant and welcoming space.
Its mission is to support local businesses through a combination of advocacy, beautification efforts, and managing a range of events that draw the community together.
Mainstreet is responsible for looking after the eight blocks along Victoria Avenue, between Taupo Quay and Ingestre Street - the heart of Whanganui's CBD.The team is responsible for the daily upkeep of Whanganui's central streets, ensuring the CBD stays clean and attractive.
This includes services like street cleaning, graffiti removal, garden maintenance, and festive lighting installations that brighten the city during special occasions.
Its work is primarily funded by a levy paid by CBD building owners, along with additional support from the Whanganui District Council and various fundraising initiatives.Mainstreet also organises several major annual events, such as the Fest of Cultural Unity, the Mainstreet Christmas Parade, and the iconic Whanganui Vintage Weekend, all of which celebrate the city's diversity and rich heritage.In addition to beautification and events, Mainstreet promotes Whanganui's CBD as a must-visit destination through via its website, social media, and the popular Aroha Local gift cards, which can be redeemed at participating Mainstreet businesses.

As the General Manager, your primary focus is delivering the Mainstreet Whanganui Strategic Plan while ensuring support and engagement with our members.
You will lead the Mainstreet team, overseeing daily operations, driving business growth, and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.
You'll also work to maintain a strong connection with the community.Key Responsibilities:
Lead and inspire the Mainstreet team to achieve goals aligned with the Strategic Plan.Manage operations, ensuring adherence to all legal, health & safety, and policy requirements.Oversee the creation and execution of promotional activities and events that enhance the vibrancy of Whanganui's town centre.Foster strong relationships with members, stakeholders, and the local community to support the growth of Mainstreet.Ensure effective financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and invoicing.Regularly report to the Board, including activity updates, financials, and key project progress.Maintain positive relationships with the Whanganui District Council, making submissions as required.Goals:
Deliver Mainstreet's Strategic Plan and achieve business promotions and marketing objectives.Ensure smooth daily operations of Mainstreet, including financial, administrative, and visitor experience management.Lead the team to execute events and activities that drive foot traffic and enhance Whanganui's reputation as a vibrant destination.Build strong relationships with stakeholders to collectively support the commercial growth of the city.Collaborate effectively with the Operations Manager to maintain high standards of service delivery for the Whanganui District Council.All qualified candidates will be emailed the Candidate Job Brief and applications are reviewed as they land with round one of interviews likely to be scheduled before the closing date.This role is being recruited by Whanganui's boutique recruitment agency Outsourced Personnel - specialists in placing skilled office-based staff.
