Service:
Ngā Rau Rākau, Mental Health Inpatient Unit
Contract:
Permanent, Full-time, 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)
About the role | Korero mō te tūranga
You will be working as one of two Consultant Psychiatrists in our busy, 23-bed inpatient unit. Medical cover also includes two registrars and two house-surgeons. The unit is primarily intended to provide acute care, but a number of patients remain on the unit beyond the acute phase of illness for a variety of clinical reasons. A significant proportion of the patients will be subject to compulsory assessment and treatment, reflecting the severity of their conditions.
Your role will be to work alongside the other psychiatrist to provide clinical care of the patients in the ward, both directly and through supervising other staff, particularly the junior medical staff. Consultant Psychiatrist input is essential in a range of clinical activities, including 24-hour seclusion reviews, periodic reviews of treatment, statutory assessments under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 and decisions about leave and discharge.
The Mental Health Service has a robust Peer Review Group and you will have access to CPD activities to meet ongoing registration requirements.

There is also a day program ('Harakeke') that operates out of an adjacent area in the building. The unit is light, modern and as home-like as possible.
