Offer Description Implement strategy, provide academic and people leadership and collaborate across disciplines
Seeking authentic partnership-driven leadership, innovation and drive
3-year term plus permanent senior academic appointment based at AUT's City Campus
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a university of opportunity where all students with talent and potential have the chance to succeed.
We are a socially-driven university with equity and excellence central to our purpose and actions, and we offer a stimulating teaching and research environment with strong connections to government, business, and industry.
AUT has more than 26,000 students and almost 4,000 staff based primarily at our three Auckland teaching campuses.
AUT's dynamic School of Engineering and Computer and Mathematical Sciences (ECMS) is crucial to the future of New Zealand.
With approximately 175 deeply committed staff and nearly 3,000 (EFTS) students, we are a large, complex School and one of AUT's biggest.
We develop ambition, capabilities, knowledge and passion in Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences practice, and form an important part of AUT's transdisciplinary Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.
Our disciplines are growing, our departments are world ranked, we're research intensive and have a strong transnational education footprint.
We are seeking an innovative senior academic to combine their academic leadership expertise with disciplinary expertise, as our new Deputy Head of School.
The School of ECMS is in a strong position and we're looking for an experienced academic leader to help us continue the great progress made, whilst embracing space for your own innovative thinking.
We're a diverse School and you'll be comfortable communicating with groups from different disciplines.
In this exciting role you will work closely with the Head of School across priorities, as we tackle industry and community challenges with a trans-disciplinary lens.
You will also utilise your partnership-driven people leadership skills to contribute significantly to the school's research and teaching activities while also playing a vital role in developing and implementing the school's strategic goals and supporting our people leaders with staff management.
Key focus areas include:
Support the Head of School to execute School strategy and provide staff management support and guidance to our people leaders.
Embrace AUT's Te Aronui framework.
Support staff as the School and AUT works towards becoming a Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led organisation.
Help lead the uplift of the School's research profile and outputs.
Help foster excellence and support in teaching, scholarship, and collaboration across the School and research centres.
Work with relevant key staff to improve various subject rankings.
Become a key contributor to a School culture focused on excellence, innovation and equity in teaching and learning, service, industry and community outreach, and other academic contributions.
You will be recognised as a culturally capable leader who champions inclusivity and diversity, and is committed to creativity and innovation.
Your ability to listen, connect, collaborate, communicate and influence will be critical - as will be your strong respect for others.
A resolute, robust and positive attitude is essential.
