Research Development Software Engineer

You will work as a research software engineer in a small team within an innovative and vibrant technology-oriented startup community here at YES!Delft, the incubator of TU Delft.
Your primary responsibility will be to help develop advanced signal processing and imaging algorithms and software.
Your initial focus will be on software development for application in seismic subsurface imaging/inversion for which we have a project with a launching customer.
At a later stage, other types of data can possibly be used to improve imaging/inversion in settings with a focus on civil engineering for climate adaptation or structural health monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Data-processing software development for advanced wave-based imaging algorithms in Python and Julia
• Working on L1 optimization in a basis-pursuit-type setting with wavelet-like bases/frames
• Actively participate in R&D on advanced wave-based imaging/inversion

Qualifications / Requirements

hard skills

• MSc or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computational Engineering, or related fields
• Demonstrated knowledge of L1 optimization-algorithms in a basis-pursuit-type setting using wavelet-like bases/frames
• 3+ years of full-time relevant software development experience in scientific programming in Python and Julia
• Fluent with Git version management system and GitLab
• Fluent in English
• Must have legal authorization to work in Europe; we cannot accept candidates without this

Even better if you have

• Experience with seismic-data-processing-related code development
• Experience with C and/or C++
• Experience with parallel programming using openMP and MPI
• Knowledge of or experience with seismic data-processing and imaging/inversion
• Familiarity with Seismic Unix or Madagascar and seismic data formats
• Online certificates in data-science high-level specializations from MOOCs, such as Coursera, Udacity, Stanford, MIT, and familiarity with toolkits such as TensorFlow, Keras, Pytorch, Scikit-learn

• Estimated base salary range:
  euro 45k - 65k dependent on level of education and experience
• Dependent on annual company performance, we offer an attractive annual performance bonus up to 10% dependent on level of experience
• 8% monthly holiday pay on top of the base salary
• 5% monthly company pension contribution on top of the base salary
• For exceptional candidates we offer participation in our attractive employee participation scheme to earn a significant amount of stock appreciation rights in the company with vesting spread over a period of 1-3 years, dependent on level of experience
