Our Data Engineer plays a key role in automating and optimising data products, using advanced data engineering practices and maintaining high-quality standards. This involves ensuring the smooth performance and movement of large-scale clinical and genomic data by selecting the right tools and methods.

As a Data Engineer, you'll collaborate with other technical experts and product leaders to create efficient and effective data delivery solutions. These solutions will help researchers and clinicians by improving efficiency, enhancing data quality, and integrating with core data catalogues and systems.

This is a highly technical position where you'll work with a variety of tools to establish a strong foundation for acquiring, storing, transforming, and managing organisational data.

Everyday responsibilities include:


Develop and execute specifications for data acquisition, transformation, lineage, de-identification, metadata capture, and integration with master and reference data.
Leverage the latest healthcare data solutions by working with cutting-edge cloud technologies.
Implement and enable best practices for efficient and secure data storage.
Establish and implement best practices for pipeline development, covering all elements of the data lifecycle.
Apply strong skills in application development and implementation, with a focus on data-driven solutions.
Champion first-class coding practices and set high standards for development.
Work closely with QA teams to define robust testing and automation standards.
Provide data-related training and guidance to team members and colleagues across departments.
Develop and share in-depth knowledge of healthcare applications, data standards, and regulatory constraints.
Design healthcare data models and associated frameworks to meet organisational needs.
Explore and innovate at the forefront of data technologies to deliver impactful solutions. Skills and Experience for success:


Strong understanding of cloud principles, including storage, compute, execution, disaster recovery, point-in-time recovery, versioning, and performance tuning.
Expert SQL skills with a proven track record of delivering value to stakeholders.
Extensive expertise in cloud architecture and solution design, with a focus on AWS.
Proven ability to develop new functionality within existing systems and tools, as well as optimise and modernise legacy solutions for improved performance.
Proficiency in Python programming, with hands-on experience using orchestration tools such as Prefect and Airflow.
Familiarity with setting and adhering to high standards in software development, including practices for code development and deployment like CI/CD pipelines.
Experience using infrastructure-as-code technologies to ensure consistent, reliable deployment of both applications and infrastructure.
A passion for solving complex technical challenges while delivering high-quality, meaningful solutions that support organisational goals.

Qualifications

Ideally, a Master’s degree or equivalent experience working in data, biostatistics, informatics or data analysis or engineering.
