Estates Surveyor

We're looking for an exceptional Estates Surveyor to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Estates Surveyor, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home.
This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.
Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share.

Your world of expertise
You will be a member of the Met Office Property Management team developing and implementing the strategic management of the Met Office property portfolio to deliver an estate which meets all relevant compliance and Met Office business requirements, providing the right accommodation and estate solutions in support of the organisation
Your key duties:

Estate Strategy - understand strategic business drivers and contribute to development of strategic asset management plans & estates strategy
Property Portfolio Management - implement estate portfolio strategy, maximising performance and optimisation of the portfolio, ensuring estate managed in accordance with required compliance standards, including Government Functional Standards.
Provide property professional expertise on all major estates initiatives, leading/inputting into business cases/projects for estate investment and provide estates strategy & direction to senior leaders and stakeholders
Acquisitions and Disposals - direct on identification, appraisal and acquisition of temporary and permanent sites and disposals strategy, including obtaining investment approval and maintain reputation as source of property expertise with clients and colleagues
Property Data Management - in depth knowledge of property data management systems (such as Propman; e-PIMS/InSite) and Government Data Standards.
direct on Cabinet Office estates data commissions (e.g.
State of the Estate (SOFTE))
Cost Management - supporting the preparing and examination of costs for budget purposes and supporting Finance Business Partner with estate portfolio cost information including IFRS reporting and budgeting.
Stakeholder Engagement - build partnerships and maintain good relations with key internal and external stakeholders and professional advisors (including legal, professional, Government, public agencies and other organisations/partners)
Planning & Development - advise on feasibility of planning permission and impact of planning policy and oversee all planning applications in support of business and Met Office Safeguarding consultation reviews and responses.

As our Estates Surveyor, your total reward package will be up to £57,639 annually, which includes:

£41,725 base pay
An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
Essential Criteria, skills and experience:


Professional membership of RICS or AssocRICS working towards professional qualification (or equivalent) - Met Office are experts by nature, always learning and developing to do things better.
Property Expertise - Experience in a property management environment, dealing with complex matters.
Making and taking ownership of your own decisions at the right level.
Able to demonstrate autonomy within your profession and are broadening your skills in other property areas - Met Office Keep Evolving
Customer & Client Service - be able to take time to investigate and analyse the needs of the client to best inform decisions.

Stakeholder Engagement - Be able to communicate technical and complex issues to a range of stakeholders, particularly where there are risks to delivery - Met Office are Better Together
Analytical Decision making - Be able to take large and complex data sets and distil meaningful insight, that can be used to shape strategic and operational decisions - Met Office Live and Breathe it
Commercial Acumen - Work in partnership with colleagues, suppliers and third-party organisations to maximise operational and financial performance to offer best value for money for government.
