Clerk of Works - Scope of Services
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clerk of Works to join our Buildings and Places MEP Engineering Team within our Bristol Office. You will be working alongside one of our Associates on a single project for the new build of a temple and ancillary building in Sutton Coldfield. The role will be site based for the duration of the project around 24 months. If this project is successfully completed there is the option for further follow on works that will be a mixture of projects that will be either site based or a mixture of site visits and office / homeworking depending on the project requirements. The projects will vary scientific, educational and other commercial projects, mainly in the Midlands but the possibility of future projects to be around the UK.
We require a minimum or 5 years experience working as a Clerk of Works, NEC Supervisor or site inspector and a background in the construction industry.
Job responsibilities will include:
On-site Role
• Reporting to the Lead Clerk of Works and the Project Manager
• Attend site on a daily basis during the construction phase of the project
• Attend Design Responsibility Matrix Review with the EA / Main Contractor
• Provide practical advice to the Project Manager and Client
• Ensure that the installation is compliant with the approved construction issue drawings
• Review contractors deliveries for correct materials and delivery condition
• Agreed a site visit regime with client side consultants
• Schedule the attendance for engineers visiting for specialist roles, as required during the construction phase
• Keep a daily diary
• Provide a weekly report including photos
• Respond to all queries
• Provide a monthly summary report including photos for the Monthly Project Meeting
• Utilise the Main Contractor's FieldView (or other electronic reporting tool / application) system for reporting early warnings, snags
• Maintain a record of current snags and progress on clearing snags
• Attend on site meetings as required
• Witnessing of site activities and recording contractor's items offered for inspection i.e. footings / trenches, concrete pre-pour, rebar inspections, concrete pours, steelwork setting out & erection, etc
• Attend commissioning witnessing and schedule specialists MEP engineers visits
• Schedule the attendance of MEP specialists as required during the Commissioning Witnessing period
• Witnessing of MEP commissioning of major plant and providing Test & Inspection Reports for each system.
• Obtaining and reviewing test certificates and other documentation required under the contract.
• Agree a Benchmarking and inspection regime with the EA and Main Contractor
• Undertake site risk assessments and review contractors H&S documents
• Provide monthly programme reviews against progress on site
• There may be a requirement for weekend working but this will be an exception and only when authorised by the client
Off-site / Sive Visits / Inspections (Post Completion of Sutton Coldfield Project)
• Regular visits to various sites to inspect and provide written reports to the project team.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and ensuring that the project is being built to the contract requirements and to the correct quality standards, raising/querying any discrepancies verbally and in writing.
• Witnessing of site activities
• Witnessing of MEP commissioning and providing Test & Inspection Reports for each system.
• Monitoring progress against the contract programme.
• Reporting on any health and safety concerns noted on site, general site conditions and ensuring any matters are dealt with by the site management team.
• Identifying and highlighting defects and following them up until they are rectified, and maintaining a defects register and updating this monthly to be included within the clients project report.
• You will be the 'eyes and ears' for the client on site, updating them on progress through the completion of our standard site visit reports.
Requirements:
Experience working on scientific, educational, commercial and other building projects as a Clerks of Works with a minimum of 5 years experience and ideally a member of ICWCI or someone who is willing to work towards such a qualification.
Having held a position as aa NEC Supervisor would be ideal or an experience working on NEC construction projects would be an advantage.
Experience working with Web Portals containing design/works information, drawings specifications, method statements etc. with the ability to download, view and retrieve information effectively.
The ability to read technical drawings and specifications and interpret contract programmes in various formats i.e. paper, digital, etc.
Knowledge of site health and safety procedures is essential.
A sound experience of technical building design and Building Regulations.
A knowledge and experience of Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health design or a strength in one of these disciplines.
Experience of working under both the JCT and NEC suite of contracts.
Strong communication skills including project reporting.
The ability to work on a number of projects at any one time and manage their time accordingly.
Qualifications:
Clerks of Works with a minimum of 5 years experience and ideally a member of ICWCI or someone who is willing to work towards such a qualification.
Having held a position as an NEC Supervisor would be ideal or an experience working on NEC construction projects would be an advantage.
Someone who holds a current Skills Card or equivalent card with a 'Professionally Qualified Person' level of attainment or someone who is willing to work towards obtaining this
