About the Role

In your role as Senior General Valuer, you will be required to carry out the following:

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Valuation management
- Producing valuations for sale, and formal appraisals for probate and insurance purposes in France.
- Be the point of contact in France for all estimation requests coming from the Bonhams systems and ensure valuations are produced in due time with the expected quality standard.
- Providing valuations at clients' homes, at Bonhams, and other premises.
- Participate or run client relationships.
- Liaise with specialists (60 expertise departments at Bonhams) to obtain estimates and integrate their notes into the valuation system.
- Work with valuation colleagues in Europe and the UK on international valuations.
- Promote the services offered by the valuation department to clients, suggesting communication or events to increase visibility to new clients.
Valuation sourcing
- Develop with local management and head of valuation France all network art intermediaries (notaries, insurance companies, family offices, lawyers, etc.) and participate in all events.
- Sourcing goods for sale and negotiating with clients wishing to sell mainly in France, but also in continental Europe if needed or for export outside the EU.
- Source new valuations by using and developing your network.
- Contact former clients to offer updates of old valuations.
Collection valuation and project coordination
- Participate in taskforces around collection valuation and sale.
- Take full responsibility for the management, completion, and delivery of your valuation projects to your clients.
- Value items consigned to our decorative art auctions as required.
Auctioneer duties
- Be an auctioneer for live sales and charity sales in France if qualified.

Key Skills and Attributes:

Generalist or auctioneer background with 7-15 years of experience in an auction house based in France.
Very good knowledge of decorative arts and works of art for authentication, research, and estimates.
Good knowledge of values and trends within the auction world.
A 'can-do' team player, proactive, and with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team.
An adaptable and personable approach - comfortable in a warehouse, manor house, or office (either Avenue Hoche or our warehouse).
High-quality customer service in the production of verbal and written valuations for sale, probate, and insurance, with attention to quality of work delivered.
Excellent communication skills and charisma, very good team player and management skills.
Fluency in French and English; a third language is a plus.
