About the branch:
The Professional and Corporate Affairs branch is located in the Regulatory and Consumer Services division in the Department of Community Services.
The branch is responsible for administering a variety of legislation in three areas of focus:
health professions, business professions, and corporate and society registers.
There are three units responsible for each area of focus.

The Corporate Registries unit manages the registration of businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and cooperatives in the Yukon.
The group ensures that corporate governance standards, policies, and reporting requirements are upheld while facilitating efficient service delivery to the public and private sectors.
The unit is also responsible for maintaining a public personal property security (lien) register.

About the job:
The Professional and Corporate Affairs branch (PCA) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join the team as a Policy Officer.
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Registries, you will work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders to provide advice and analysis on numerous pieces of legislation impacting corporation registrations, not-for-profit societies, and other business operations in the Yukon and outside of the territory.
You will be responsible for providing advice on policy and standard development, legislative changes, and regulatory frameworks that impact the governance of business operations.

You will be expected to participate in national meetings of regulators by profession, maintain an understanding of trends and practices in regulation, proactively engage in stakeholder communications, identify and draft policy papers for the administration of the legislation, and ensure that public information is kept current.

As a Policy Officer, you will be expected to use your exceptional communication skills and ability to speak proficiently on regulatory matters when educating the public and as a Yukon representative at an inter-jurisdictional level.

  • Degree and/or post-secondary diploma in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Law, Insurance, or a related field;
  • Experience conducting research, analyzing data, and communicating complex ideas in writing and orally;
  • Experience leading multiple complex, multi-stage projects;
  • Experience providing well-reasoned recommendations to decision-makers;
  • Experience developing policies, directives, and/or guidelines;

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability:

These are competencies and/or job-specific proficiencies that are effective to be successful in the role and may be assessed during the recruitment process.

  • Ability to draft decision-making documents and develop policy using clear language;
  • Ability to think critically, analyze a broad variety of policy projects or research areas, and make reasoned recommendations;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills;
  • Ability to manage project work teams and work in a team environment;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience with managing websites and online communications would be an asset.
