Job Summary:

This is for a permanent full-time position, working 75 hours biweekly. The Department of Energy, Mines and Resources is committed to achieving high standards of service. We embrace teamwork, innovation, creativity, and problem-solving to achieve our goals and those of our clients.

The Mineral Resources Branch regulates exploration and mining activity under the Quartz Mining and Placer Mining Acts with the goal of encouraging responsible development and a sustainable industry in Yukon.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, the Director is responsible for directing, managing, and evaluating Yukon's overall approach and strategies for mineral development and management through the provision of direction, administration, and implementation of departmental and individual mineral sector business and action plans. This position is a key member of the department's senior management team and is responsible for providing vital advice and facilitating resolution of issues impacting the mineral industry while protecting the environment and public interests. The Director provides sound management of mineral resources and ensures that legislation is supportive of development and responsible management of the mineral resources.

Essential Qualifications:

Significant management experience in a government or corporate setting, leading and providing strategic advice, direction, and recommendations on complex projects and initiatives involving First Nations and federal, provincial, or territorial governments;
Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating legislation, regulations, strategic plans, programs, and/or policies;
Experience in consultation, collaborative problem-solving, facilitation, and conflict resolution;
Significant experience managing human and financial resources;
Significant experience leading teams, coaching, mentoring, and team building;
Significant working knowledge of mineral exploration and mining;
Working knowledge of the Yukon Government's policy and legislative approval processes would be an asset;
Working knowledge of Yukon First Nations Final and Self-Government Agreements, the Devolution Transfer Agreement, and matters related to consultation and Aboriginal rights would be an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.
