This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Who we are

The Hearing Services Unit provides diagnostic audiological evaluations, hearing screenings, hearing aid evaluations, dispenses hearing aids and provides follow-up to the general public. This unit also supports multi-professional care in collaboration with specialist clinics, long-term care facilities, Student Support Services, and the Child Development Centre.

Your role

Reporting to the Manager, Hearing Services, this position leads the technical and administrative aspects of hearing aid care with a strong customer service focus, including: funding applications, hearing aid consultations, ordering/receiving hearing aids and related products, fittings, follow-up care, reprogramming and troubleshooting hearing aids. Other duties include assisting audiologists with hearing assessments, coordinating and conducting in-school and newborn hearing screenings, maintaining clinical equipment, and clinical supply ordering.

Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

Current license with a regulatory hearing instrument practitioner authority in a Canadian jurisdiction; a student or restrict license may be considered.
Recent experience working as a hearing instrument practitioner or related (including practicums);
Experience performing administrative and financial support duties;
Experience using a variety of computer programs, including database programs, Microsoft Office, and patient management software.
Experience with children in a professional environment would be an asset.

An underfill appointment may be offered to recent graduates needing practicum hours for licensure or to applicants actively working toward Canadian licensure.

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

Current licensure with College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta (or proof of licensure within 3 months of hire as an underfill appointment)
RMCP Vulnerable Sector Check Clearance
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent
WHMIS 2015 (within one month of hire)

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

Ability to work with, and support, clients with hearing impairments.
Ability to work with sometimes difficult or highly emotional clients.
This position works in a normal office environment.
It is required to be able to lift 25 lbs in order to move and manoeuvre audiometric equipment. Physical effort includes sitting at desk, and standing and bending when providing care, assessments, and evaluation to patients.
This position lives and works in Whitehorse, Yukon; working hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
