This job is based in the City of Whitehorse, in the beautiful Yukon.

The French Language Services Directorate (FLSD) is a team of twenty-six client-focused professionals dedicated to empowering departments to serve and inform Yukoners in French. We foster strong partnerships with other departments and stakeholders, provide strategic advice rooted in language policy and planning, and offer centralized services such as translation, training and bilingual communication advice.

We seek a strong leader to provide vision and direction in the development, delivery and evaluation for all programs and services provided by FLSD. The Director is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of policies, guidelines and strategies related to the Government of Yukon's obligations under the Yukon Languages Act. The incumbent is also responsible for intergovernmental relations with the Canadian Francophonie, such as negotiating funding agreements with the Government of Canada and other governments or agencies regarding French-language services and communications and briefing the Minister responsible for FLSD on local and Canadian Francophone issues. The position is also a key liaison between the Yukon Francophone community and the Yukon Government.

Essential Qualifications
Important application requirements:

Post-secondary education in management, public administration or related field.
Significant executive-level management experience within a public sector; developing and implementing strategic plans and programs, leading complex multi-party projects and initiatives, and financial management experience negotiating and administering funding agreements.
Proficiency (oral and written) in both English and French.
Experience with legislative and constitutional obligations relating to minority language rights is an asset.
Specialized knowledge of the language policy and planning field would be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
