YOUR NEW ROLE

As a Technical Energy Lead, you will provide leadership and coordination on sector and organization-wide projects related to building assets and offer the opportunity to develop and implement new programs and solutions to sustain the non-profit housing sector. The Technical Energy Lead will provide support through BCNPHA services to advance and sustain the non-profit housing sector. You will be working directly with non-profit housing societies to assist with oversight and delivery of coaching services such as building portfolio assessments, project planning, and implementation. This role will lead an emissions reduction program meant to accelerate the implementation of deep energy retrofits within the non-profit housing sector.

This position is part of the Asset Management team, reporting to the Building Energy Manager/Senior Program Delivery Manager, and will work very closely with the following teams:

• Internal: Asset Management Department and all Association departments, and

• External: may include utility companies, BC Housing, AHMA, consultants, and non-profit housing provider staff (administrators, property managers, executive and board members).

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Leadership and planning:

• Leverage BCNPHA Operations plan and Strategic Asset Management Plan to roll out, and evaluate programs and services, which deliver a combination of building renewal projects, education, and energy benchmarking.

Benchmarking Non-Profit Buildings:

• Work with the Building Energy Analyst and non-profit housing societies to ensure BCNPHA's benchmarking and data collection processes are completed for required buildings.

• Analyze data for business case development, retrofit estimates, and potential project feasibility.

Conduct Energy Audits:

• Travel to sites or virtually collect building system information, identify energy conservation measures and decarbonization opportunities, and write ASHRAE Level 1 Energy Audit reports.

• Perform outreach and site visit coordination across the province - arrange appointments, accommodation, travel, and report expenses.

Coach non-profits through building retrofit projects:

• Provide technical support to non-profit housing providers to identify, plan and implement capital, energy efficiency and decarbonization retrofits and other low-carbon electrification (LCE) projects. This may pertain to a single building or a portfolio of buildings.

• Coordinate retrofit and decarbonization plans, funding applications and projects for non-profit societies, working with staff and board, consultants, engineers, contractors, utility companies, and various funding agencies.

• Assist non-profit housing providers to review and interpret energy studies and load analyses provided by engineer consultants.

• May be expected to support Energy Analyst or perform measurement and verification.

Program/Services Support:

• Act as the reporting lead for funded initiatives and serve as the primary point of contact for external partners.

• Liaise with stakeholders/utilities to provide feedback, guidance, and funding reports with respect to grants, partnerships, incentive programs, and sector needs.

• Oversee tool and template development.

Data Management:

• Update databases to ensure that data is shared between relevant internal and external partners.

• Assist, identify, and follow through with opportunities to add additional relevant data and improve BCNPHA databases.

Education:

• Organize education sessions for the annual conference and RENT events, as needed.

• Facilitate and deliver online courses and presentations, as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education:

• Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, applied science, arts, business, computer science, math or data analytics.

• Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate (SEMAC), or a Master's degree in clean energy, sustainability or data science would be an asset.

• A certificate in project management would be an asset.

Experience:

• Must have at least 2 years of professional working experience in a relevant field.

• Must have knowledge of energy analysis, energy conservation measures, decarbonization planning, low carbon electrification, buildings, building construction, and building energy systems.

• Must have direct experience with building retrofit planning and implementation.

• Must have experience with Energy Star Portfolio Manager, RETScreen, or energy analysis software and datasets.

• Direct experience with building decarbonization and measurement and verification would be an asset.

• Working knowledge of building control systems, building envelope design, low-carbon electrification and Federal and/or BC-based rebate programs would be a considerable asset.

• Experience communicating with IT on database configuration needs would be an asset.

• Previous experience working with non-profit organizations would be an asset.

Skills:

• Must be proficient in all MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Must have experience and a high level of proficiency in report delivery, presenting numerical and statistical information visually.

• Experience with writing energy audit reports and funding applications would be an asset.

• Must have strong professional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, updates, and feedback to both internal teams and external partners in a timely and professional manner.

• Must have strong quantitative analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Provide quality assurance, troubleshooting, and follow-up as needed.

• Adapts for changing conditions; communicates changes and progress and meets challenges with resourcefulness.

• Identifies ways to improve process and quality, developing alternative approache.
