Your Role in Shaping the Future of Video Streaming

Position Type:
Full-Time, Permanent

Location:
Vancouver, BC (Hybrid - 1 day remote per week)

What You'll Do:

As a QA Lead at BitKernel, the ideal candidate will have experience across Android, iOS, and web platforms, with a strong focus on managing quality assurance processes for Compose Multiplatform projects. They should excel in developing and implementing comprehensive testing strategies, including unit and automation testing, while effectively leading a QA team through complex challenges in large-scale environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Strategy & Planning

• Work with product owners, developers, and QA management to define acceptance criteria, identify risks, and plan testing coverage for upcoming features/releases.
• Review test plans for proper coverage and identify gaps.
• Maintain a broad understanding of mobile technologies and supported devices to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
• Identify and drive the implementation of mobile quality reporting, testing techniques, and best practices.

Automation & Quality Assurance

• Develop, implement, and maintain test automation frameworks for web and mobile applications.
• Create and execute test plans, test cases, and automated test scripts to ensure software quality.
• Utilize tools such as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, Protractor, Mocha, Jasmine, and TestNG for automation testing.
• Ensure robust API and backend system testing, including REST APIs, databases, and mobile applications (iOS/Android).

Team Leadership & Execution

• Lead and grow a quality assurance team as both a people manager and a tactical driver of success.
• Develop a week-to-week testing plan and ensure the team executes against it effectively.
• Escalate issues to appropriate stakeholders early in the development process to mitigate risks.
• Mentor junior team members and instill accountability, motivation, and best practices within the team.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with development teams to improve the quality and efficiency of testing processes.
• Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) strategies using tools like GitLab and Jenkins.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies, modern front-end frameworks (Vue.js, React, Angular), and industry best practices.
• Participate in architectural discussions and technical planning to enhance overall software quality.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience testing both web and mobile applications.
• 2+ years of experience leading quality engineering teams in a highly hands-on role.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of development lifecycles, testing methodologies, and QA processes.
• Hands-on experience with test planning, test designing, and execution.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages, preferably JavaScript.
• Experience with automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, Protractor, Mocha, Jasmine, and TestNG.
• Strong knowledge of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, XML, JSON, and REST APIs.
• Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks such as Vue.js, React, and Angular.
• Experience with databases, API testing, backend systems, and mobile testing (iOS/Android).
• Proficiency with GitLab and CI/CD build systems such as Jenkins.
• Proven ability to lead QA teams, mentor junior team members, and drive results.
• Ability to articulate vision, manage deliverables, and communicate effectively.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective presentations with a dynamic attitude.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with live or VOD video streaming platforms.
• Familiarity with multimedia codecs (AVC, HEVC, VP9) and DRM systems (PlayReady, Widevine).
